I was wondering what everyone uses to store food since the book says not to use plastics or foils. I have a lot of plastic wrap and plastic food containers (Glad-Ware). Also, are plastic re-usable water bottles OK to use?

This is a reply to # 414,015I still store freezer items in plastic freezer bags, but probably the white butcher paper is better. For fridge items, I use glass containers like covered pyrex. I think I recall reading that plastic drink containers should not be re-used more than once, as the plastic wears down over time. But, I was wondering if that applys to my Nalgen water bottle...anyone know? (It seems to be a much harder plastic.)

MoreThis is a reply to # 414,017I wonder if wax paper would work. Also, doesn't butcher paper have a plastic coating on the inside? Or is it something else?

This is a reply to # 414,023What is nalgene??? I have some plastic water bottles that I got from Wal-mart that you are supposed to be able to wash and reuse - is that nalgene?
Also, I use pyrex to store food, but the tops are PLASTIC! I wonder if it is OK to use since the plastic doesn't touch the food.

This is a reply to # 414,025Ok Nalgene is the brand name, the plastic is called Lexan. Yes it's reusable.
Anyway, ANY plastic bottles - not good. Some people still use this type, it's better than the others, but... hopefully somebody will come up with a convenient type of bottle with a ceramic/glass (not easily breakable) lining. SOON.- Re: Storing food colorofwater

This is a reply to # 414,027I have been trying to find portable but not plastic food storage. I take food to work for lunch everyday, and I bring a water bottle. Sometimes I bring food that needs to be heated in the microwave. I wish there were containers that had leak-proof lids but were ceramic or glass or whatever and were easy to carry and wash and use over and over.
I know that any plastic that has a number 1 on the bottom should not be reused at all. I was hoping Nalgene was ok. I looked on their website, but they don't even address the whole issue of plastic's ability to leech chemicals into your drinks. They only talk about how unbreakable it is.
Does anyone know of portable, safe, non-plastic food storage containers?

This is a reply to # 414,048My husband hunts and he would love to get bear meat, but now that I've read the Maker's Diet and am trying to do it, I am thinking that bear meat is probably not an acceptable meat. It's not mentioned in the book. Does anyone know?

This is a reply to # 414,051I thought of that. For certain kinds of items (berries to snack on, or nuts for instance) I think I will dig out some of my Ball jars.
I just purchased some glass bowls made by Pyrex. The lids are plastic, but at least the bowls are glass.
I also remembered that we own a couple of stainless steel thermos bottles. I am going to try to use one of those instead of a plastic water bottle to bring water to work. A little unconventional in my work setting, but maybe it will do the trick.

This is a reply to # 414,065I like to use pyrex in the freezer even though it has plastic lids. The food rarely touches the lids anyway, and I have even cut out pieces of wax paper to put between the food and the lid.

This is a reply to # 414,066Wow you guys. I've been on the supps and diet but have not even begun with other areas like this. We still use plastic. A lot. I'm addicted to Zip lock. This is a reply to # 414,091Thanks for your comments Bethany. I too am not sure all the fuss about plastic is worth the effort and expense it takes to convert. I've been doing it a little bit at a time. When K-Mart has a sale on Pyrex I'll get some and replace the plastic here and there. I do like how easy it is to take Pyrex out of the freezer and put it in the microwave. Now that is something plastic can't do!

This is a reply to # 414,091I'm addicted to plastic too.....it's simply too convenient! I think the main concern is heating food in plastic! I avoid that at all costs! We now store food in glass containers, with plastic lids, and carry lunch items in plastic bags.
