Invasion of Afghanistan.
How many innocent people were sitting in there modest homes taking breakfast with their families when bombs fell on them?
How many are unjustly being tortured without any evidence?
Wouldnt you be wary of someone who is of the same faith as the one who has destroyed so much and has infiltrated thier life?
They probably thought he was a spy, think about it...
This is like saying, the bully got his boots scratched when he kicked the baby in the teeth.
Any comments?
Motherof4, you know I respect you and consider you a great wealth of information, but I completely disagree with you on this point. Just because the U.S. has flawed/detrimental foreign policy does not give Afghan and/or Paki Muslims the right to torture ANYONE, regardless of religion, aside from MAYBE U.S./Coalition troops (and even that is arguable).
The family that was tortured was a native Punjabi Christian family; they were not spies. Torturing/killing people because they are of the same religion as your enemy is not just. And also, this is NOT an isolated incident. There is a real problem in South Asia. The Muslims of certain South Asian countries (namely Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and parts of India) tend to have more of an Islamist/ultra-conservative view than the Muslims of the Middle East and North Africa, esp. in regards to Christians and non-Muslims. There is a real, substantive Muslim nationalism in South Asia resulting from a sort of inferiority complex. There is a lack of perceived parity among South Asian Muslims and Middle Eastern/N. African Muslims. Because of this, many South Asian Muslims feel that they need to be "more Muslim” than their Arab/Persian counterparts. This leads to an intolerance of other religions. It's unfortunate.
Also, Christians in countries such as Pakistan and Afghanistan are such a minority and so severely repressed that they do not even pose as even a marginal threat to the Islamic regimes. What’s the point of torturing them? What have they done?
Also, another thing that really bothers me, Motherof4, is that you have no problem condemning the casualties resulting from the U.S. invasion, but make absolutely NO mention of the casualties resulting from the Taliban-ran government. Why is this? Why aren't Muslims as vocal about their abhorrence for the tyrannical Muslim-ran govts. of the Arab world and the Muslim states? Do you guys only care when the killing is done by non-Muslims? This is a real problem in the Muslim community. Why don't people speak out against the Saudis, against Musharraf, against Assad, against the Ayatollahs, against allllllllllllll the military coupes that take place REGURALY in the Muslim nations? Why don't Muslims speak out against the natively imposed oppression and repression; against the genocide in Darfur?
If you ask me, Muslims in the West seem to only mobalize when the West rears its ugly head in their native countries. Do you guys not care about the hundreds of thousands of Muslim brothers and sisters that are being killed, suppressed, oppressed, and/or discriminated against by their local govts?!
