Those are really good questions.
Acidity is not for everyone I guess, but it seems to have some benefits for illnesses. This is how I see it: Healing takes place in alkaline conditions, but infections are taken care of in acidity [where bacteria and viri do not do well].
I really like the idea of Vit C for urinary tract, and bladder especially, infections. The acidity alone helps control the infection, plus if there is an immune boost from Vit c it will help control the infection that way too. Any excess Vit C will be processed thru the kidneys and end up in the bladder.
As for kidney stones, I dunno. That may be a bit of misinformation on the part of pharmagiants to keep us from trusting Vit C.
Remember that there is a strong belief that ascorbic acid and sodium asorbate are both needed for effective Vit c therapy. Avoid Vit C products with added sugars or anything else not natural.
The amounts can vary too - from a few grams a day up for maintenance, up to 40 or 50 grams [ i.e.50,000 mgs, the whole bottle] if you are ill. However, I now believe, for my body, that no maintenance dose is needed , but when I am ill or have chronic conditions I am trying to address I will take a LOT. Even just occaisionally, I will take 20 gms a day for two or three days to try and cure my IBS, because it could be caused by an infection. Sometimes I feel an actual craving for Vit C. , and will dive into it then for a few days, usually until the bottle is gone!!
When I see that it is coloring my urine, I will drink more water and if still doing it I will stop it because it is likely an oversupply when it color urine.
- Thoughts on this? Maybe it is doing its job when it colors urine? or, when I was younger, I took Vit C with red food dyes in it which wer coloring my urine - watch out for those un-natural ingredients!!
