Has anybody ever suspected hsv1 as a possible cause?
If so is the virus alone enough to trigger EC or would it have to be getting a traumatic cold sore to the lip?
I have tested negative for hsv1/2 but this did all start after 3 weeks aftee an encounter with someone who turned out to be hsv1 positive.. I've never had a cold sore or outbreak though and like I said have tested negative .. Idk was just curious.. This is a reply to # 2,287,350I have EC and DO NOT have herpes. I got my EC from picking the skin off my lips over the course of months.
I do, however, know a girl who got EC from picking the colds sores that she would get on her lips. If I were religious I would say God bless her soul. She really, really has struggled with this shit, like all of us. - Re: Herpes and exfoliative cheilitis... lipeel

This is a reply to # 2,287,350I think it is strongly possible that HSV / some other type of virus is the cause of EC.
HSV / other viruses may manifest themselves differently for different people.
I know that my mother gets cold sores, which means the possibility that I got HSV from her is very high, yet I have never had a cold sore lesion.
This leads me to believe that HSV may be a possible culprit.
