Yes, many enzymes are natural chelators. Some of those things chelated are minerals we actually want, like calcium, as opposed to those we don't, like lead. This is going to be the case with quite a lot of supplements, not just C, but C is particularly good for this.
Calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium plus a solid full-spectrum humic/fulvic/trace minerals supp are your basics and as long as you have some of that, C shouldn't be any issue.
Also, you should take at least ~400mg vitamin E if taking a lot of C.
