Hi, I am new to curezone, sorry if this post is in a wrong category, or area!(I'm trying to figure it all out)
I am desperately seeking advice/help in two health areas that are really worrying me.
After having many health issues for most of my life, with no answers and endless appointments ( since I was 15 years old, I'm now 32) I was referred to a specialist gynecologist for recurring yeast infections ( I was only referred to the gynecologist because of the vaginal yeast infections, and to see if they were related to severe interstitial cystitis that I've had for the last three years, other bladder issues were ruled out after seeing a urologist and getting some tests including a cystoscopy)
My other health issues are/were severe chronic insomnia since I was 15 ( most prescription sleeping/anti anxiety medication does nothing, the combination I am now on, helps, and Im sleeping better than I have in years, but this is still maybe an average of 4-5 hrs sleep a night), brain fog constantly, dizzy, exhausted, nauseas, alternating diarrhea and constipation ( for about the last 6 years), depression, irritability, mood swings, weight gain, bloating, indigestion, head aches, itchy eyes, puffy eyes, toenail fungus, thrush, and constant yeast infections. I have also been diagnosed with underactive thyroid about a year ago. A lot of these symptoms were attributed to my insomnia( and constant lack of sleep, I am unable to sleep at any time, naps are also impossible-EVER- It doesn't matter how many days I havn't slept for, or how tired I am, its impossible)
Upon seeing the gynecologist 3 months ago, I was put on Nizoral by that gynecologist. He prescribed to me 200mg/day for one year. There was no further explanation provided by him. However, it did set me on a journey of research to find out what was wrong with me and why I was prescribed nizoral.
I realized I obviously have systemic candida, so on top of taking the nizoral, I began taking garlic with supper, candigone kit, coconut oil on and in everything, probiotics, and a strict candida diet ( I do mess up sometimes, but I would take an extra 1/2 dose of candigone when I screwed up) Basically my vitamin and prescription ritual was this( and I am eating a healthy candida diet):
First thing in morning-Syntroid(50mcg)
With breakfast- omega 3, vit d, coconut oil( in green tea), milk thistle( 250 mg)
Mid morning-candidgone ( on empty stomache)
lunch- b complex, multivitamin, milk thistle ( to protect liver)
mid afternoon- 2nd dose of candigone kit ( on empty stomache)
supper- nizoral taken with lemon water ( for better absorption)
Mid evening- a small snack of veggies/hummus or something with 4-5 crushed garlic clothes)
at least one hour later- my sleeping combo... 500mg magnesium, 2 tryptophan prescription pills, 10 mg melatonin, 20 mg mirtazapine, 1mg Ativan ( lorazepam)( this is the combination after 17 yrs that works best, and is the lowest dose of things, ive been doing this about one year, my sleep got better than ever after a few weeks of nizoral at supper time as well)
Right before bed- multi strain probiotic with at least 30 billion( I switch brands when I run out)
I also have veggie greens powder at one point in the day that I can fit it in( I figure this is important for alkalizing my body and helping with digestion/free radicals)
I am also on prometrium for the last 2 weeks of my cycle because it does help with sleep and I have mild estrogen dominance( I know there is conflicting information about whether this can feed the candida, but I really feel better on the progesterone, my sleeping problem was worse before this and my moods were intolerable leading up to my period)
Anyway, I was starting to feel a lot of improvement the last few weeks, my interstitial cystitis was almost gone, yeast infections were about half the time instead of all the time, sleep was a lot better since starting the whole anti-candida protocol ( the current 4-5 hours a night)
Now for my dilemma, everything was getting better, I felt on top of it( after lots of stressing and research to come up with this regime) and basically revolving my life around candida( I also got
Amalgam fillings removed the last few months!) I get a phone call from my doctor to come in. I went in and I found out that I have High Iron Saturation (65%) I went for more blood work the other day to retest the levels, including ferritin( I don't know what it was the first time) and to test for Hemochromatosis. I was told to stay away from anything high in iron and it was up to me if I wanted to keep taking the Nizoral. ( this is my family doc, not the one that prescribed the Nizoral) I am worried that the Nizoral in combination(or not) with my other antifungals, could have caused my liver to get stressed and cause the iron saturation problem( I have read a lot on hemochromatosis, and if that is what I have then I don't think the Nizoral would have effected it, since I understand Hemochromatosis is a genetic disorder) However, if I don't have it I'm concerned that by aggressively attacking the candida like I did, I may have caused worse issues!?
I have decided to stop the Nizoral( I KNOW the gynecologist that prescribed it, is going to think Im nuts to discontinue it, but this is the same guy that said I don't need to do the candida diet, or even take probiotics, also this doctor didn't think it was necessary to monitor my liver enzymes while taking Nizoral for a year!) My family doctor has also ordered my liver enzymes to get checked since learning about this. Even he ( who thinks "systemic candida" is a hoax) knows my enzymes should have been monitored on Nizoral.
Now Im scared to eat or drink anything, and I am completely confused as to whether I could have made things worse, if I should stop taking EVERYTHING ( except the sleeping pills as that is absolutely non-negotiable as I will get zero sleep without, and I cant have that right now!)
I know the primary concern now is my iron saturation being high. This puts my liver, pancreas, heart and other organs at great risk. But at the same time I don't want to completely set back the progress I had with the candida issue.
So now I "cut back" my own candida protocol to this ( I am following a healthy candida diet):
(synthroid in morning for underactive thyroid)
breakfast- coconut oil in smoothie or tea
mid morning- 3-4 drops oregano oil
lunch- omega 3, milk thistle
mid afternoon-oil of oregano
supper- 3-4 cloves crushed garlic up with lots of water and supper
evening at least 2 hours before sleeping pills- 3-4 drops oil of oregano again
1-2 hours before bed- sleeping combination
Right before bed- probiotics again
I am still following the candida diet.
Can someone please help me with sorting some of this confusion out:
Do you think I was "over killing" with my candida protocol causing my iron saturation to be messed up
Do you think I have some kind of undiagnosed autoimmune disorder? ( because of the underactive thyroid, high iron saturation, and chronic candida)
Should I be doing more or less than what Im doing right now, considering my liver is definitely stressed form the iron overload?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I am really beyond worry right now as I wait for answers about my blood and liver. Advise someone???
