After years of attempting to reduce the size of or eliminate my fibroids I landed up in the ER. Had to have 4 blood transfusions one after the other since my hemoglobin was 4.8. I was hemorrhaging prior to going to the ER but was certain that it would stop on it's own accord. Needless to say it did not. I spent the night in cardiology, and my vitals were monitored every 15 minutes. Not fun. The next morning, after it was established that my hemoglobin was 8.9 I had a D&C. I was discharged in the afternoon but my hemoglobin had dropped to 7.9. It's going to take a while to build up again. The surgeon wants to see me in 2 months, when we will check my hemoglobin and discuss my options. Of course I don't want a hysterectomy, but I never want to relive that frightening experience again. I am just discouraged because I am otherwise healthy, take no meds and eat a healthy diet. I have tried everything to get rid of the fibroids, but to no avail. My uterus is the size of a 14 week pregnant women. I find myself between a rock and a hard place, I don't want surgery, yet i can't afford to lose so much blood since I am anemic. Any thoughts or ideas or encouragement would be appreciated.
