A few things.
I'll start by explaining how I got a rid of it. I won't drag it out because it was a simple, but long process.
All I did was eat healthy and exercise.
I think around Jan 2012, I was already eating healthy for about a year, and didn't start exercising until around Dec 2011. So, by the end of my first College semester (April 2012) it was gone.
Fast forward to Summer of 2013, I was still working out, but for about 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours everyday, however, I was eating unhealthily again under thought that if I work out for that long everyday it wouldn't matter. I was even eating at McDonald's again. I was only getting strawberry smoothies, but it was everyday, and I didn't realize there was 60 grams of
Sugar in it (and that's just in a size small).
Also, I had a few drinks over the summer while at my cousins wedding.I still wasn't having problems yet though.
During the start of this past College semester (August 2013) I was still good, no reactions from anyone, all laughs whatnot. Then around the end of September/ middle of October, the reactions and comments started up again.
During September, there would occasionally be a random fart smell (that I can smell) that would spawn from out of nowhere for about 30 seconds. Someone would say, who farted, then it'd be gone.
Around the middle of September, my sister had a party at her school and she made a bunch of cupcakes. However, a bunch of other girls also brought cupcakes, so she came home with most of the ones she made. For some stupid reason, I was just eating these things for breakfast, lunch and dinner for like a week.
I would say about a few days after that is when the problem started back full force. Meaning, it occurred all the time (or atleast when I was not at home), I could not smell it, yet everyone else could.
Since then, I've gotten it back down to where the smell spawns for a few minutes-seconds, along with me being able to smell it.
Specifically, what do I think caused it to come back? I think it was the diet. I think somewhere along the line I f***ed up my digestive system. Nearly everything I eat gives me uncontrollable gas. My diet as of now is as follows.
Drinks:
7+ cups of water/day,
Lemon/Orange/Peach/Ginger/Dandelion herbal teas
almond milk
Food:
gluten-free oatmeal (I mix this with the granola below)
gluten-free cream of rice
gluten-free granola (with blueberries, amaranth, millet, quinoa, flax seeds, and buckwheat)
ground flaxseeds (I mix this with smoothies)
bananas, strawberries, cranberries
carrots, lettuce, cabbage/broccoli (I think I might need to cut this in order to properly follow a low fodmap diet), kale/spinach
Snacks:
gluten free thin rice crisps (I eat this with peanut butter)
gluten free peanut butter (I'm speculating that I should not be eating this. I experimented today and yesterday, and realized that every time I eat this I get gas, whether it's gluten free or not. Even more so, I recall when I got a new job in August I would always have peanuts before, during and after work and would always have gas. This is also around the time the random fart smells started to appear.)
Medicine:
None
No vitamins, no probiotics (I've wasted too much money on these for them to produce no results at all).
I hope that helps. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.
