I am embarking on my yearly 21 day
Water Fast and am and now on day 8. I woke at 3am this morning with a horrendous toothache. My tooth felt like it was on fire. I went to the dentist and found out I need a root canal. She went ahead & put me on
Antibiotics (for the infected pulp & nerve) and scheduled the procedure for next Monday. I know that
root canals aren't always the best way to go, but I HAVE to get this taken care of. The pain is too much to bare.
(I am aware of all of the risks involved in a
root canal procedure. Please, no lecturing. I know that getting the tooth removed & replaced with an implant is the much better option. However, my insurance will not cover an implant at this time. I have also had 10,000 dollars worth of orthodontics done, so pulling the tooth and risking a shift in teeth is also just not an option for me. ^ I also wanted to add that I am also going to see my parents who live 2000 miles away for Christmas; so waiting to have the
root canal done after my fast is also not an option.)
Okay, so, the bottom line is - I am super ambivalent about taking
Antibiotics & getting a
root canal while fasting. Do you think it's safe to go ahead and get the procedure done while fasting or should I break my fast? I'm doing so well and I'm feeling amazing other than the toothache. My body feels like it wants to keep going, but my mind is worried that the
Antibiotics (which don't have to be taken with food, btw.) and the root canal (which involves two to four shots of Novocaine) might be on the dangerous side. I'm terrified of passing out or having a seizure. (I don't take the pain pills they prescribe you, so that isn't an issue.) I am really only concerned with my safety, tbh. I have already experienced so many benefits from this fast and I am grateful for every one of them.
Thank you for taking the time to read and reply. I know this was REALLY long, but I wanted to provide you with as much information as I possibly could. I've scoured the internet to no avail. I can't find a single instance of someone in a similar situation. Any help would be VERY much appreciated.
