here's what i know, and what my symptoms are at present - i haven't yet cured myself completely. I know that when i ate fruit (per the McCombs plan), i didn't improve. as soon as i stopped eating fruit, i started seeing my white tongue lessen. i know that from the other forum, folks that had previously tried other candida diets, made the most and fastest improvement on Able's diet - because his diet is the most strict (but also well thought-out and thorough). now that my tongue is perfectly clear at times (after six months on a non-strict fruit eating candida diet + 6 mo's of Able's strict diet), i've started adding in new foods like parsnips, carrots, raw cacao nibs, some sweet potato, millet - not all at once, but a little here and there. I can tell that if i eat too much, i get a headache and this pressure feeling in my forehead. This is a new symptom for me. and my white tongue starts to come back. I also took Nystatin. It works great when in proper doses - i can tell my gut is totally clear of candida. But I wonder if the Nystatin pushed it in to other parts of my body. It is harder to treat because i need to take coconut oil, or SF722 - and they irritate my kidneys. I think 6 months of eating non-strict and killing a bunch of candida, only to have it regrow and have to kill it over again, caused my organs to be irritated by candida's toxic byproducts. So the point is, it's better to be strict from the get-go with diet. It sucks, but as you learn to eat a good whole foods diet of mostly veggies, you will learn the tasty ways to prepare them, and it does get better/easier. then, after being strict for a while, you will know when you are feeding candida something it likes. if you are not strict, you end up all over the place in a killing & feeding cycle not really knowing what is feeding it and what is safe. Now.. as many have pointed out, there are less strict diets. And some claim a less strict diet is better for the adrenals and thyroid. The problem is, one doesn't know. What works for one person, might not work for another. And you waste a lot of time and punish your body trying to find out. I have read a ton of posts on here going back 10 years, on the other
Candida Forum , on tons of other sites - and it seems to me like there are some common themes - fruit is bad for 90% of ppl with candida. Other gluten-free carbs may or may not be ok. It takes a long time to get well, if one even can. Life sucks for a while and will completely change for most people. Other organs are usually compromised - liver, adrenals, kidneys. The gut is usually also compromised with bad bacteria, parasites. One may have too many toxic metals. Etc.
