A metallic silver particle is a silver particle what ever it is called, a nano-particle(metallic silver) or Colloidal Silver (metallic silver), silver aquasol(metallic silver). Only the size varies in the production of metallic silver particles. Now those of us who make our own at home can do so with a very low cost.
The statement “Smaller is always better” when it comes to silver nano-particles, is generally true, but only to a certain point. The actual answer was released in the data within American Biotech Labs ’new patent (# 7,135,195). (The link to the new patent can be found on the company website). On page 11 of the new patent, under the heading of “2. Size Analysis ”it states, “The smaller the average particle size, the greater the surface area and the greater the contribution of the particular surface chemistry. How
ever, if the particles are excessively small there can be a loss of stability and/or other interactions that negatively affect the product. ”This indicates that there is an optimal particle size for effectiveness of silver nano-particles. If the particle size becomes too small, the product loses effectiveness. The knowledge of optimal particle sizes has helped American Biotech Labs file and receive patents on what the company deems the most bio-active or most effective particle size. American Biotech Labs now owns the rights to these particular particle sizes, and no other company or person can legally make a similar product within approximately the next two decades.

RE. Nano-particle silver is smaller can deliver the silver to the body better, and supposedly because it is encapsulated in the water, it will all exit the body after 48 hours without absorption.

There's alot of theory and conjecture surrounding the accumulation of silver compounds in the body. Though one of the main theories is that the accumulation isn't size dependent per say but more along the lines of what form the molecules take within the body and whether or not the body can meet the demands needed to sufficiently expedite these compounds to avoid build-up and/or accumulation over time. Granted, I have no issues admitting the overall lack of verification associated with such reasoning, though this seemed the going consensus when I last looked into this myself.

Unfortunately... it appears as though silver the deposits and accumulation of silver deposits in the body end-up being an unavoidable given enough exposure regardless of the initial product form(ionic/metalic etc). Though I myself, haven't found any evidence to substantiate such a claim with products like: Mesosilver, Sovereign silver, AND/OR heat or chemical reduced silver solutions myself. And so I'd take it with a grain of salt(pun). - Though others may have information to share on this.

RE. True Colloidal Silver supposedly has jagged edges and may break through the water particle, so therefore the body will absorb some of those silver molecules that are not completely encapsulated in water.

Without knowing what stage of the process this applies to, I'd question whether or not the shape of a colloid matters given the changes it will undergo following absorption.

or SilverSol (nanoparticle silver) (aka Now Foods, ASAP Silver Sol).

My answer is: Neither

I tried what many would call some of the best Colloidal Silver money can buy in the past in an effort to treat a serious infection only to find they were nowhere as effective as the homemade solutions made from a few batteries, a current control regulator and heated stirrer. And so my answer would be simply be: DO YOURSELF A BIG FAVOR & SAVE YOUR MONEY! - But that's just me :)

The definition of a colloid (any colloid)contains the size of the material dispersed which is between 1 nanometer to 1000. Nano Technology would define the particle range as being 100 nanometers or smaller. However, any Colloidal Silver (and yes, there is such a thing as colloidal ions, and ions can be molecules, larger than a single atom) is generally 90% Nano tech particle size.

I prefer to make my own Colloidal Silver (90% Colloidal Electrolyte aka silver ions, and 10% metallic silver). Your body absorbs the silver ions with the help of metallothionein (a metalloprotein) in your saliva which protects the ions from the chlorides formed in the stomach and the chlorides in the blood. Metallothionein actively transports silver to the cells; so silver chloride formation is a non-issue.

Metallic Silver has to be absorbed passively (no biological system to transport it)over the intestines, and by osmosis over the cellular walls. Both work, both are colloids, but bottle Colloidal Silver is too expensive.

Incidentally, Sovereign Silver is an ionic product. However, there is no such scientific term as true colloids in any encyclopedia, text book (physics or chemistry).
