My rapist is going to prison, and was sentenced to a level 3 state facility.
He got convicted of having child porn on his computer, but what really sealed the deal, and put the nail in the coffin were his prior convictions of rape and violence. He was deemed to be a repeat offender through the parole board.
It appears that his defense attorney, nothing they did stuck. They tried to ask for just counseling, said the child porn and predatory nature of the pictures is a cause of our computer society, (which was wrong, because he sought out the government agent that HAND delivered the content), they claimed that he had an illness which CAUSED him by of chance, "download" the porn, which he didnt.
Upon sentencing, they looked at his priors, and he has a history of violence, of beating up his partners and raping them.
The thing is, when these woman reported it, I guess there was no trial. I think the deal with this particular offender is that he probably wasnt even aware that he even did anything wrong.
I reported the rape when I was 15, but the police did nothing. I waited too long, and there was no evidence. Later, when he stalked me, I called them again, and again they did nothing. They came to the house, and left when they got another call.
When he raped other women, he lived in a different state and city, but I notified the court to also look at the field reports in where he raped me.
All these years, I've really felt like crap. Cops dont take rape seriously, or I guess it depends on how the rape is presented to them, (ie, like if they find a body in the alley, vs someone who seems ok on the outside and is reporting rape).
But it is, and reporting it certaintly does help, even if they make YOU feel like you've done something wrong.
Because he was a repeat offender, the judge was able to sentence him within the guidelines, but I am sure he would've just walked away from prison had no one reported him.
For all of you victims out there, report the crime. Either way, you are going to feel bad, either holding it inside as a dark secret, or letting it out by reporting it.
At least if you report it, its a step toward closure. And more than likely, you will find that your predator did the same thing to someone else.
If people dont take your side, (like a close family member, you have an enabling mother, etc, ). Then, this is a clue that you are not in a safe protected environment anyway, and you will feel more empowered having a plan of leaving.
