I have heard of both. Make sure they do an ultrsound and NOT just fish around looking for it. Drs have told some that it must have fallen out; they get a new one put in, and now, they have two! They couldn't find my strings and had to remove it by hysteroscopy! Keep us posted! Congratulations on the pregnancy ;)

Mine was lost somewhere between 6 months and 3 years, and I didn't know it. The Dr. did an ultrasound, but he thought it showed the Mirena was still in there. But the X-ray clearly showed that it WAY off to the side--no where near my uterus! Please let us know what happens. Think about getting a second opinion if you are faced with any decisions. my silly friend asked for the mirena after i told her not to. anyway she got really sick and ended up in the er thinking she was having a heart attack. i think her body was rejecting the mirena. a few weeks later she found out she was pregnant. most of the time they will not remove the mirena if you are pregnant, they just assume it fell out.

she carried her baby to full term but she was still tiny. she wore premature baby clothes til she was about 1 and it was hard for her to gain weight. she actually lost weight. she is fine and healthy now.

I had my baby 8 months ago. He was conceived while I had the Mirena in. I had him a month early due to developing preclampsia. I'm not sure if the Mirena caused that, but I have 4 other children and didn't have preclampsia for any of those pregnancies. Preclampsia is where your blood pressure gets too high and can cause seizures and even death. So make sure they monitor your blood pressure. I spent a lot of time at the hospital my last month of being pregnant. Also my baby has had a lot of stomach problems. He has been on Zantac since he was about a month old. He spent the first 7 months of his life crying, puking, and eating constantly. He has had some weight issues also. He is getting better as he gets older, but he is still vomiting everyday. Just not as much or as often as before. The first 7 months were a nightmare tho. Again I don't know if Mirena is to blame for any of it, but none of my other children had these problems. I didn't realize I was pregnant until he had been in there with the Mirena for 2 months. I had it removed immediately. Other than the stomach problems and being a little under weight he seems pretty healthy tho. Good luck to you and congratulations on your pregnancy. :)
