Hi,
I am going thru a re-infection of strongyloides, even though I am under the care of Hospital of Tropical Diseases.
Three months ago they agreed I should be prescribed oral steroids for my lung infection, on the basis they had given me three does of Ivermectin and it should have killed the buggers.
The rashes started straight away and have gradually got worse.
I returned to HTD a couple of weeks ago as I knew I was goimg thru a re-infection and this was proved by blood serology test.
I have been given 4 doses of ivermectin to be taken at weekly intervals.
I seem to be reacting much more badly to the Ivermectin this time round. last year I had what I would term a chronic stronyloides infection whereas now it is acute.
I took the Ivermectin 4 days ago and the rashes are worsening from feet thru to neck. I am also on Antibiotics because my lungs are not good.
Should I expect a worsening of urticaria? Can Ivermectin cause strongyloides to go crazy and spread so as to speak? when should the urticaria calm down?
My back -in between my shoulder blades itches like crazy at night. The specialist says the urticaria is an allergic re-action but I am concerned the lava are actually in the spots.
If they are, should I be washing my sheets and night clothes every night?

Steroids are ABSOLUTELY contraindicated in Strongyloidiasis infection.
Steroids not only suppress your immune system response to the parasites but research shows steroids actively induce reproduction causing hyper-infection.
"google" is your friend... you will find nearly every case of fatal strongyloidiasis is caused by administration of endogenous steroid to infected patients. The lung symptoms are an expected side effect of the process. While taking Ivermectin, killing the adults releases larvae, which pass through the lungs. This should pass with continued administration of the drug at the proper dose and the larval count declines with successful treatment. If they would perform "LIVE WET MOUNTS" of your sputum they should find numerous larvae. As well, the new adults undergo a "reproductive burst" in the first couple cycles, in order to re-estblish the population.
I'm assuming you tested positive for the antibody (ELISA?Western Blot) This infection can be very resistant to treatment, particularly in long standing cases with lack of eosinophilic response. Ivermectin may be required for extended periods of time or even indefinitely if the condition fails to resolve. You may achieve further benefit from adding also Albendazole 400 mg twice dailey to your regimen, taken with meals with 40 gram s fat. Ivermectin is also better absorbed with a quantity of alcohol such as vodka. Discontinuation of steriod is absolute must.

Thanks for your advice, and yes I did know the HUGE danger of taking the steroids. I took them for a number of reasons, although this might not seem logical to you.
1) I NEED my GP, Respiratory specialist, and the Hospital of Tropical diseases to understand that I must NEVER be given steroids again. The Specialists at HTD, believe catagorically that Ivermectin [1-2 doses] kills strongys. They had treated me, therefore advised my respiratory doc that it was now safe for steroids.Under great duress, I took them. I reported to my resp doc within days, recurrences of rash and other symptoms.
2) I felt strong enough now to risk a minor infection as I recognised all the signs. I also treat myself with herbs which is how I got it under control in the first place.it has not been pleasant and I will never take steroids again.
3) I want HTD Hosptial of Trop diseases to treat me properly, and get their agreement to test me yearly for life...I am not going to be sidelined, and I have to prove to them their precious 1/2 doses of ivermectin is not enough to kill these monsters......
They have now given me 4 doses to take at weekly intervals. my reaction to Ivermectin has been worse this time. i suspect because of the number of young new adults.
All in all I am not going to gamble with my health again to prove a point......but at least I am being seen by the top specialist now!
in parallel I see a good Naturapath. We use kineisiology to test whether they are still there or not. i use this method to check how effective the hospital treatment is. Interestingly we also use my muscle response to steroids to indicate how well the battle against strongys is going.
I need to establish a long term regime to keep them to minimum. it will undoubtedly be a mixture of alternative and traditional medicine. At the end of the day I am responsible for my own health!Advertisement

Hey China, glad you are doing better and have the proper specialist treating you. In a weird way you are lucky, too bad you have to go through all this to finally get help though.
You know, about 2 years ago, way bay before the knowledge of my infestation was known to me, I saw an eppisode of that show monsters inside of me. (lots of BS on the show, but this one I remember well). The subject was a man who was from a small villiage in India or Nigeria or somewhere like that. Anyway, the man now lived in the US and I believe he was a physician now. He had Arthritis or something and they gave him many rounds of steroids. He went from having a minor issue, to suddenly became worse and almost dying. It then came out that he had some type of worm infection, his immune system kept it sealed all these years since his childhood, and the steriods let it fluorish like mad. They explained how steroids suppress the immune system to allow hidden disease and parasites out. I'm sure this info came from medical science, and not the imagination of the producers of the show.
My point is that if it is known in medicine that steriods can release more hidden worms, it really makes you wonder why the smart doctors would give them to someone who is at high risk for infection like you were. How is it that we know more than them about these things, how they work, how to treat them, etc??
It's too bad that you had to go through all that just to prove to them that they are mistaken about something that is their field of study, just the get right amount of medication. well thank you SD2345 for not calling me an absolute idiot for swallowing the steroids.......
I have been treated very badly by so called specialists across a number of areas in my search for why I was sick. Instead of getting indignant and feeling an idiot, I am trying to beat them at their own game!! I am not really certain what the game is....but I am learning to play them if that makes sense. be it...take the medicine and watch me die..... well its not really that bad!
My GP now takes me seriously, as does my respiratory Specialist.....I just need the Prof at HTD to take my condition seriously too.
Perhaps....just perhaps, these few individuals will remember my case if other sufferers come there way.
Many people on curezone would say give up on the traditional doctors / the NHS as we call it in the UK, and just get on with self treatment. I do not see why they should be allowed to get away with it!I am not going to go away and hide in a hole, they need to get their act together!!!Advertisement

You are certainly not an idiot, you just did what you need to. Plus, despite knowing what's going on in the medical field like we do, when someone assures you it's ok, you want to trust them. It's a helpless feeling dealing with these things. It's not as simple as there being something wrong in your body you can correct, but rather there is something IN your body that is preventing good health. Sometimes all the juicing and herbs simply wont work.
I know that here on curezone taking drugs is not popular. I feel the same way about 98% of the drugs given out, and the desecration of human bodies when natural means could save organs. However, if I thought there was a magic pill that would make these things go away for good, I would take it - then flood my body with nature to correct the damage, and move on. In my case, it's just not that simple I'm afraid, and I would have to take so much of the drugs it would kill me. I've got very persistant little worms in me.

I have them too. Tapeworms... I have them in my lungs and have many cutaneous larvel migrans sores on my inner thighs, my face, my breast, and various other places. I am currently treating it so I don't know if what I doing will cure it. I did 3 days of mebendazole last week with no results that i saw. My doctor gave me another 3 day dose and another to repeat 3 weeks from now. She also gave me 3 Antibiotics , Silver sulfadiazine cream, and scabies cream to try to kill the ones in my skin. If anyone knows how to clear this up let me know. They are coming out of my nose, and I must be coughing them up. I wear dentures and i found them in my top denture. They are definately hookworm because the worms i find look exactly like the pics i have found on google, with a definite head end. I am scared.Advertisement

You need Ivermectin and fast. Mebendazole is useless at least for such a short period.
I have the same thing as you. In my nose too. You need to get ivermectin horse paste from amazon.co.uk. Take the width of your little finger 2 hours after eating, just before bed. You can also use the ivermectin paste in nose, on privates, on breasts and under the tongue to absorb well.
