I agree with you... this would likely be true for anyone of any faith leaving their "religion" though. Tough, especially if one is surrounded in their lives by those that believe you should remain in the "click"... "group"... and apply peer pressure to one degree or another.
"Religion" is kind of like a drug, in that one usually has to break completely away from their social circle in order to become and "ex", whatever.
This is true in
Science circles as well... especially with "faith" based science... a strong unyielding belief in a scientific theory... even in the face of other
Science work that raise doubts.
So yes, there is a strong need for support.
I suspect the "disagree" votes are an emotional response and I would ignore them.
One of my favorite, all time sayings...
"religion gets in the way of our relationship with God"
No truer words have been spoken as far as "religion" goes IMO.
