Hi Will -
A couple of years ago a fellow I know who was the lead guitarist for Pauline Reese's band (he is now the lead guitarist for Gary P. Nunn) had Crohn's so bad that he could hardly get out of bed and thought he was dying. Ben Taylor, the owner of CZ sponsor Utopia Silver gave him a couple of bottles of their high quality colloidal silver, digestive enzymes, probiotics and trace minerals. In two weeks he was back onstage and within a month or so said that he not only felt that the supplements had saved his life, but also felt the best he had in years.
Colloidal silver, in addition to destroying the bacteria and pathogens also helps heal and repair tissue, even to the point of tissue regeneration. Digestive enzymes help dissolve and remove scar tissue (especially if you take plenty of them on an empty stomach and make sure they contain serrapeptase - or else purchase it seperately). Probiotics help re-establish good intestinal bacteria. I am not sure what role, if any, trace minerals may have but we are all deficient in many of them and the combination has been a good one.
I personally have noticed a significant scar reduction from a botched use of black salve from taking digestive enzymes twice daily on an empty stomach and the application a couple of times daily with either Dr. Christopher's complete skin, bone and tissue salve or else colloidal silver/aloe gel.
It would be much easier to try to give some suggestions for your mother if I knew a bit more. Have the doctors mentioned any specific conditions, such as perotinitis or liver disease? I will mention that the same above items might help and also that magnesium deficiency can result in chest and other inflammation as well as lack of energy. Between 90-95% of us are deficient in magnesium (which must be supplemented 1 to 2 or 1 to 3 with calcium), and it can take years for the deficiencies to manifest themselves.
You might just find some great results with a whole foods derived multiple vitamin, mineral and other essential nutrient product such as intraMAX. I recommend it most highly.
Cayenne pepper tincture is also good for inflammation, as is ginger root. There are other items as well, but I do not want to engage in guesswork without knowing more.
You can find a bit more information and suggestions about scars at this page on my website:

All the best,

I think moderate amounts of iodine could be very helpful. Luella was on thyroid meds for years until she came to CZ and followed the suggestions in the Iodine Supplementation group. She has been able to stop all her meds as a result.
Any reductions in medications should be done slowly, preferably under the guidance of a qualified naturopathic doctor.
