Have been dealing with excessive facial and body hair growth for 20 years, diagnosed with allopathic hirsutism at 15, seen lots of dr's & "cures" to no avail since. I've tried to control it with electrolysis (barely helped), laser (vastly different results--even with same technology--according to whomever was manning the laser), BCP, tweezing, bleach, and those tiny "micro-touch" kind of electric razors. I am the supposedly the best candidate for all laser treatments because my hair is dark and my skin is very pale.
The laser finally lessened the courseness and volume of hair on my legs, but I still have to shave. After 6 treatments on my arms, I still have LOTS of dark hair, but i'ts a little finer and I just bleach it with Joleen monthly. Nothing helped on the face. SO, until now, I was tweezing and waxing my upper lip, and bleaching the rest of the hair on my face and then "trimming" it with the microtouch trimmer. Which was manageable, but if I was on vacation or missed a day of tweezing, it would be obvious.
When I heard about Vaniqua about three years ago I thought it was too good to be true, so I didn't look into it. BUT, I finally decided to try it, and it's something that actually works for me!
You need a prescription for it (got one from my gynocologist) and with insurance I think it's about $30 for a 2 month supply. Mine has lasted mcuh longer since I only use it a couple of days a week. The tube says use it 2xday, but i get results using it once a day every other day or so. I saw an immediate slowing in the speed of growth and thickness of the hair in a week. I was completely amazed that something so easy FIANLLY WORKED. I'm going to do a more steady regimen of it now, so I can stop with the daily tweezing and monthly bleaching. It's too $$ for your body hair, but a revelation for the face & neck.
I highly recommend that you all try this. I don't know if there are samples available but I would think 2 weeks would be enough time to know if you were seeing improvement, and $30 seems like a worthy gamble if it could save you all the time it takes to control the hair. I know lots of our problems are hormonal and those underlying causes still need to be treated, but we should be free of this ugly and uneccessary side effect while we're doing it.
Just wanted to share my success story since they have been rare for me in dealing with this problem.
