I work and live in the apartment that received an air quality test 6 months ago. The test showed toxic mold stachybotrys chartarum and more. In fact, the levels were high enough that I was moved to another location for 2 months while the place was remediated. After 2 mos, I was told it was safe to go back although when I entered, the place still smelled musty. I decided to trust my employer and moved back in. Now, 6 months later I have headaches, ear static, ulcers in my mouth, drainage down my throat and sometimes my lungs hurt. I spend about 90% of my life inside this house, since I live and work there.
During this time, I have repeatedly complained about the heating and air conditioning system. The themostat does not work properly since sometimes I have to set it at 67 degrees to cool and other times, when the thermostat is set at 85 degrees, the place is Freezing so cold I have to turn off the ac and open all the doors and windows. Employer ignores my requests to put in a new thermostat. They tell me to shut the vents in the rooms to control the temperature (this doesn't do anything).
Originally it was decided the mold was coming up from the unfinished basement. The basement is dirt floors. Plus there is a long history of plumbing problems, sewer back up and sewer spills. During remediation, they removed all the plywood that had the sewage on it and they removed all the paint cans that were being stored down there and they also removed alot of cobwebs and the plugged holes from the outside so water couldn't drain down there and they also repaired alot of the leaking pipes. The pipes are still the old copper old ones. They replaced the carpet in the entire house but didn't tell me why. I guess, it was full of mold...
I added some pictures to the mold photo area of the basement under the house
I want to know if the mold could have grown back?? The remediation company said the place was okay. But, if the dirt basement was not covered, could the toxic mold still be there or could it be inside the walls?? They never looked inside the walls but found it in every room using the air tests. The last air tests showed still some mold but much lower levels and they considered it safe.
I want to know about the boards in the ceiling are possibly full of mold. I want to know if the air duct work for the AC Heating is the cause of the mold. The HVAC was cleaned 6 months ago but now I am getting the symptoms back. Dizzyness, headaches and sinus problems.
The air ducts were not tightly secured - and these were installed the maintenance man who doesn't know what he is doing instead of a heating company. I also want to know that if the basement is full of mold, then why are the air ducts down there and doesn't that mean my house/office is going to be blowing mold spores all over the house?
Before I make another formal complaint, I need to know what areas that I want looked into. Will an air test be enough or should I request a swab test of the wood inside the basement? Should I demand a heating an air conditioner inspection? Should I call the building inspector to find out why the permits were not applied for and could this be a cover up for something bigger.
I don't want to be a problem employee but I don't want to put my health at risk any longer. The other employee says she her eyes are watering all the time and she is concerned.
Also, I just found out the remodeling of this home/office was done illegally without proper permits.
The house/office is appx 100 years old. History of plumbing problems and sewer back ups
