dear solid food,
I am sorry but I do not know the answer to that question
I tried to do a little searching online and all I could find was these excerpts
this one was about dogs so not sure if it applies to people

With kidney disease, your dog becomes less alert, loses its appetite, and may vomit. Take your dog to your veterinarian if it shows any of the following signs that sometimes (but not always) point to kidney disease:
Chronic Failure
1. Increased thirst and urine volume
2. Weight loss
3. Weakness and exercise intolerance
4. Tendency to bleed or bruise easily
Acute Failure
1. Dehydration (To test for this, gently pull the skin away from your dog's middle. If the skin does not immediately spring back, the dog may be dehydrated.)
2. Stiff-legged gait and arched back (a sign of painful kidneys)
3. Little or no urine production
of course, it does not say it was over the kidney area
another site talked about hematomas
Hematoma
A swelling caused by an accumulation of blood in the tissues. A hematoma may occur at the site where the needle has slipped out of the vein. Also called a bruise or "black and blue" mark.
the last site said this about kids with kidney disease:
Dealing with Outward Signs of Kidney Disease
The clinical signs of kidney disease vary depending on the diagnosis and the amount of kidney function remaining. For many conditions, there may be no obvious symptoms. When kidney function is decreasing, the child may appear pale from the anemia related to the kidneys inability to produce the hormone that encourages our bodies to make new red blood cells. Parents may need to learn to give Epogen¨ or Procrit¨ injections to treat the anemia. He may bruise easily, or seem more tired than usual. There may be decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, weight loss and a delayed growth response in height.
Do you feel you have any of these symptoms or are anemic?
If it were me and it did not go away, I would go to the doctor or call and ask his office if this could be related to the kidneys. If your state has an ask a nurse service, they also might know.
I am sorry I could not be of more help but your email at least reminded me I did not answer faith's question and I got that done.
I feel you offered some pretty good advise to her.
Sometimes it is helpful to go to or ask doctor just to put our mind at ease or see what we are dealing with so we can make informed decisions and if possible, treat it naturally.
If it is a bruise, applying herbpharn's arnica oil might help. It helps reduce bruises and swelling
