Wow! Good thing your dad has had you helping him find this stuff!
Bad enough that he had to go through the Benzo withdrawal, let alone dealing with the neurotoxin/ammonia issues from the sick liver they also caused. The L-Ornithine and Aspartates were what cleared up the ammonia for him? I'm sure he had the brain-fog (?)
The wikipedia link talks about the other things that cause encephalopathy (besides the Benzo's). Pointing out the ammonia/sick liver connection has been an important piece of information for me. I'm sure the potent herbicides I sprayed hit my liver hard.
Another woman here on CZ, went through a horrendous Benzo withdrawal, and noticably had the "brain fog" so many people talk about here. There was also a noticable difference in her posts the more she worked on killing the flukes and
parasites that were plugging up her liver, and
Liver Flushing a bunch of gunk out of there that had built up--and she was taking the L-Ornithine because of the insomnia with the ammonia (per
Hulda Clark )
She also had the night/day mixed up (like it says with the liver encephalopathy)
In quite a few different places, I've read that the neurotoxins from things like the ammonia/sick liver, and acetaldehyde from candida, cause more damage than the actual
parasites themselves. I've read that with Lyme neurotoxins too:
>>>>Research and clinical studies have determined that there are neuro-toxins released by the Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb) spirochete [Klinghardt 2002]. Neurotoxins are nerve poisons. These toxins, according to research, are the cause of most, if not all, the symptoms of Lyme disease. It is also believed that tissue damage is not caused by Lyme bacteria directly; in other words, the bacteria are not "eating" your tissues. It is the accumulation of Bb toxins in your body that is most likely responsible for the symptoms experienced by Lyme sufferers.>>>
It's kind of a catch .22--when the MD's put patients on the Benzo's- it's for anxiety, insomnia etc....which then further damages a liver that probably had problems to begin with... which then contributes to the neurotoxins that hit the brain...when most likely the cause of the anxiety, insomnia etc. to begin with WAS the neurotoxins. Just a thought. How many of these patients have candida, lymes, parasites, bacterias, and the herpes viruses to begin with- without knowing it? The MD would never think to look for any of those first as a cause.
After my mother died, and my father found himself alone after being married for almost 50 years, he was having the anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia etc...and the Dr put him on what is on the list for available anti-depressant drugs for Veterans. He didn't take them long, I'm sure now, that they were some type of Benzo drug. He was up at 3 am, out in the yard pulling weeds because they made everything worse instead of better..and he quit them immedately, after not being on them long- thank goodness.
Newport's post that made the sick liver/ammonia connection more clear to me.
>>>If you go back to some old posts you see that
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepatic_encephalopathy
was a big issue due to past use of Benzos.
At the bottom of that WIKI page you get a hint that the use of L-ornithine-L-aspartate stimulate the urea cycle. We used Mag+Pot Asparates and ornithine with success.<<<
From Cutler:
>>>Liver problems are the typical cause of elevated ammonia, which does
lead to encephalopathy.
Summary
Also known as hyperammonia.
Indications
Confusion, malaise
Insomnia
Low manganese on hair test is suggestive but not definitive
Onset or worsening of symptoms with protein or amino acids
Elevated orotate, citrate/isocitrate on urine organic acids test
Blotchy skin
Ammonia blood test is often not done correctly

This is an interesting article about the molybdenum for candida neurotoxins:
http://www.mall-net.com/cooter/moly.html
>>>Autopsies of post polio survivors who died in the 1950's were reexamined by Richard Bruno, Ph.D. Looking at the brain rather than the already noted damage to the myelin sheath and frayed nerve endings to muscles, Dr. Bruno noticed pinholes Swiss-cheesing the hypothalamus. His assumption was that the original polio infection had caused brain damage which was responsible for the post polio syndrome. I suspect that another explanation is more likely. As aldehydes slowly collect in the brain from auto exhaust, carpets, glue, wood amalgams, candida infection and are not metabolized, a fair guess would be that an autoimmune system attack is triggered by the rancidity of the aldehyde smell. Of some surprise to Drs. Henzi and Schwyzer of Switzerland was finding formaldehyde in the myelin sheaths of MS survivors.
The damage caused by many chronic diseases may just be triggered by unmetabolized aldehydes and ammonia toxicity. Dr. Henzi's success with folic acid and B12 placebos even suggests why. Sulfur containing amino acids become ammonia and remain ammonia without adequate folic acid, B12, and molybdenum
>>>>If you have adequate amounts of glutamine, selenium, niacin, folic acid, B6, B12, iron, and molybdenum, aldehydes continue to be metabolized into acetic acid, which can be excreted, or converted further into acetyl coenzyme A. If these nutrients are in poor supply, aldehydes begin collecting in the body's tissues.
So when candida is fully nourished or we are, candida furnishes the body with a necessary part of the Krebs energy cycle necessary for the health and maintenance of all cells. When our digestion is unbalanced, we incompletely convert sugars into poisons and they stay poisons in our human systems. When our digestion is balanced, or we give it what it needs in terms of supplements, a potential poison is transformed into a source of energy: aldehyde poison becomes acetyl coenzyme A.
>>>Within days of taking 100 mcg of molybdenum three times a day, I could feel the poisons from candida garbage transforming themselves into heat and energy. Where I had experienced pain in my neck and shoulders, I felt warmth. A stiff back that felt like a wall of steel was transformed into copious sweat. My muscles relaxed and were pain free. At the same time, the person I was who found it difficult to get out of bed, became someone who needed 4 to 8 hours of sleep rather than 10 or 12. Where I had been confined within a prison of fatigue, the fatigue was translated into an open expanse of energy and possibility.
***An intellectual fog that had filled my head for years scattered itself the first day I took molybdenum. I had lived with an intellectual hangover for so long, I had no idea what it was like to experience full mental clarity.**
