hi iigk,
it could be that up until this point the hormones released by the iud didn't throw off your hormonal balance. before i had my son i had been on the pill, for the first couple of years, it was great no problems. eventually, however, i became depressed and just "wasn't myself". so i went off them and almost immediately felt better. after i decided to have a child, i told my ob/gyn i didn't want to go back on the pill and he assured me the hormones in the mirena were released in such a small amount, they wouldn't have the same effects as the pill. IT WAS A MILLION TIMES WORSE. within 2 months, i was gaining weight, irritable, couldn't sleep, had CRAZY mood swings and anxiety, had terrible joint pain and skin changes. i thought it was pms, but a month later when the symptoms continued to get worse, i had the iud removed (5 weeks ago). the anxiety, trouble sleeping, and mood swings got a lot better right away. i'm definitely not "myself" yet, but it would seem from others posts that will take awhile. i have a dr's appointment tomorrow and plan to ask to have my knees, hormone levels, and thyroid checked out. best of luck with whatever it is you decide to do!
