What's up with roundworms and the egg cycles?
I have a cat that had roundworms. I wormed him using chemicals (febendazole) and had a fecal test done TWICE at the vet and they said it was clean. Apparently I ONLY killed the adults because MONTHS later he threw up worms. From what I understand on the holistic cat forums it's because I only killed the adult worms, not the eggs. So the eggs hatched, turned to adults and got to be too much for him and symptoms started popping up and he eventually threw them up.
So what is the egg cycle with these things ? Is it possible to KILL eggs? Do eggs come out in the stools? If I'm washing the floors with vinegar can that "kill" them?
This cat basically lives in a cage because he hates my other cats. So a chance of reinfestation from outside sources is not possible. I'm also a germ freak so it's unlikely I've caught them..but I'm also worried about eggs in the litter box, eggs getting on his paws and him tracking it around where my dogs have walked. etc. What are the chances of that?
