Ann Louise Gittleman (Biography)
ANN LOUISE GITTLEMAN, Ph.D, C.N.S., author of the New York Times and USA Today bestseller The Fat FlushTM Plan (McGraw-Hill, December 2001), is an award winning author of 20 books on contemporary health issues and a weight loss expert with over two decades of experience in public health and in private practice. Gittleman holds a Ph.D. in holistic nutrition, is a Certified Nutrition Specialist, has a master's degree in nutrition education, and a naturopathic degree in drugless healing. She has counseled men and women from all walks of life as well as radio and TV personalities, professional dance troupes, movie stars, producers, fashion designers and athletic figures. Self Magazine named Gittleman one of the Top Ten Nutritionists in the country. She has worked in both the public and private health sectors with thousands of clients over the years. Gittleman began her career as the Chief Nutritionist of the Pediatric Clinic at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. She also served as a bi-lingual nutritionist for the WIC (Women, Infant's, and Children) Food Program at the Hill Health Center, a satellite clinic for Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Gittleman then went on to become the first director of nutrition at the world-renowned Pritikin Longevity Center in Santa Monica, California. Gittleman's Fat FlushTM Plan lifestyle approach is the culmination of her own search for the ideal weight control system, her success with clients, and her discovery of the Five Hidden Weight Gain Factors that sabotage weight loss. "Most diets simply target one or two of these factors. Fat FlushTM identifies, addresses, and corrects each and every one of them." Her in depth knowledge of nutrition, breadth of experience and insights have placed her at the top of her profession, having sold 3.5 million books to date. She was the first nutritionist in the country to sound the alarm on the no to low fat diet mindset in her book Beyond Pritikin. She introduced American women to the new term "perimenopause" in her groundbreaking book Before the Change and began talking about the connection between internal cleansing and beauty in her book The Living Beauty Detox Program. Highly respected as a dynamic speaker and savvy media personality, Gittleman has been a frequent guest on radio and television for twenty years. She is a regular on nationally syndicated radio shows including National Public Radio as well as CBS and NBC affiliates. She has appeared on Good Morning America, PBS, MSNBC, Fox News, and Good Day New York. Countless major magazines and newspapers have quoted Gittleman or featured her work including Newsweek, Harper's Bazaar, Self, Seventeen, Fitness, Cosmopolitan, Parade, First for Women, Woman's World, The New York Times, and The Los Angeles Times. She sits on the medical and editorial advisory boards of the American Menopause Foundation, the Health Sciences Institute, the Price Pottenger Foundation, Taste of Life Magazine and Healing Retreats and Spas. She lives and works in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. |
