Par for the course...

I just love how our world works overall.  Our government and corporations, in a collusionary effort, sell nearly all our jobs overseas for cheap labor.  Then, if there is a recall, such as this one, the government shines for protecting the people.  And, people as a whole, are so dense that they don't ever question anything.  Most people think government does everything in the best interest of all the people.  If you look closely at Mattel's timeline (a company that started in Southern Cal), you will see a perfect example of Capitalism at it's finest.  The original owners, in 1975, even "left the company" as they put it.  In 1986, Mattel acquires the Hong Kong based Arco Industries and also forms a Joint Venture with Bandai, Japan's largest toy company.  It's all down hill from there.  Our American company is no longer truly American.  They don't talk about the cheap manufacturing overseas and they make themselves look good in the public eye by giving to charities.  Do you know why corporations give to charities?  For one, it is a tax write off.  It is a form of investment.  If big companies do not "invest", they would pay so much in taxes they would go under.  So, they hire companies to work at this "diversification" full time.  They also hire public relations firms to make sure that they are always portrayed in a good light and that anything negative is disolved as quick as possible.  It works...because we are so sold on Capitalism and how it perpetuates the so-called American Dream, that we will put up with all corporations at the expense of the earth.  They can call themselves Corporate America, make our toys cheaply overseas, and make a huge profit off us...and we are happy to be a part of it all...well, at least they tell us we are happy...and we believe it. 

One thing that Corporate America has going for them is that a lot of pollution is invisible to the naked eye.  If all pollution was thick black smoke, the government would have a tougher time convincing us it is ok (but they would most likely be able to).  Our system is perfect for those who are able to get big and make a ton of money in a short time without consequences.  The "mom and pop" premise that this all started on is almost non-existent.  Something the general public is never taught is that Capitalism means to capitalize, and in order to do that, you have to outsell your competitor constantly.  If you don't, people buy from them and you go out of business.  Eventually, when it runs it's course, you end up with only a few competitors.  They are all monopolies with subsiderary companies.  They do whatever they can to "diversify" as the call it, so that it won't look like they are a monopoly.  Ever once in a while (although rarely), the government accuses a company of being a monopoly and they are heros and average joe citizen is once again convinced that the government cares about him. 

Capitalism is perpetual and must stay that way.  There is no end. The end would mean death to the company.  Some have spoke of developing "Contained Capitalism". That is an oxymoron. To slow down would mean potentionally losing to a competitor.  But, Capitalism is the fuel that has caused our pollution beyond belief, and our global warming.  Humans had no model here prior to learn from, they are pioneering.  It is all an experiment.  One in three people get cancer.  It is predicted to be one in two, soon.  Yet, the masses of humans blindly follow the few into the future and into the sickness;  And, people like Al Gore are good for bringing one aspect of pollution to the forefront (CO2 emissions), but not so good because he is asking the people to make adjustments, while corporations will continue relatively unchecked, as always.  The only reason Al Gore has not been murdered is because of that fact.  So, we the people will continue to be plagued by cancer from polluted air food and water, through Capitalism...the thing that makes this country great...so we are told (and believe).

If every person were educated in upper division collegiate Sociology, then the government and big business might have a little something to worry about.  That is where we are taught about what is really going on in Corporate America and of their collusionary efforts with the goverment.  Frankly, I was shocked they could teach it, even more shocked that it was required to teach it under curriculam guidelines.  Furthermore, it is standardized and taught across the country, even abroad.  It is not conspiracies, although there are some, it is all factual and we are given text books to support it.  I can tell you from personal experience that it is truly quite something to hear the anger and see the sadness on student's faces who take these courses.  Some run to the professors for answers, but there isn't any advice to give, except...keep on keepin' on...worry about yourself first...save the world later.  Most students are so caught up in studies, that they just let it go;  It's too overwhelming for most to deal with anyway, and causes a lot of stress.  So, they graduate and go off to work and try not to think about what they learned, because most of the world is oblivious to it, anyway.  Ah, but ain't that America....

Oh, there are a few freedom fighters, a few who to try to educate us, but they never get very far.  Some of us learn a few things on shows like 60 Minutes.  I remember when Ed Bradley did a show on Dependency Theory.  He went to Mexico and pretended to own a corporation.  The Mexican goverment did exactly what it said in our textbooks, down to a T.  It was government and corporate collusion and it's finest. I was astounded.  I thought it might make people do something.  I asked the Professor.  He said, the problem with shows like 60 Minutes is, they do a story, then next week they are on to a new one;  We forget about the one a week ago. He was correct.  And, so here we are.  I often chuckle when people use the phrase "the dumbing down of America";  Since when did we ever get smart?
