Vitamin K2 investigated for potential anti-arthritic effects in rheumatoid arthritis

A recent study by the Institute of Rheumatology, Tokyo Women’s Medical University, Japan reports that vitamin K2 may represent a new agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, especially when combined with other disease modifying antirheumatic drugs.

The study, which appears in the August edition of the Journal of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies investigated the effect of vitamin K2 on the development of collagen-induced arthritis in female dark agouti rats and found that the supplement inhibited the proliferation of fibroblast-like synoviocytes and the development of collagen-induced arthritis in a dose dependent manner.

This is more good news for Vitamin K2, which was reported earlier this year to have the ability to reverse calcificatied atherosclerotic plaques when taken at a dose of 45 micrograms per day.

Further studies are in the works to determine the efficacy in treating rheumatoid arthritis in humans.

Menaquinone-7, the natural K2 derived from natto (fermented soy beans) was shown in a 4000+ participant epdiemological study to simultaneously increase bone mineral density and decrease soft tissue calcifation over the span of 3-6 months. The study showned that even the modest dose of 45 micrograms was effective.

Vitamin K2 is available in various dietary supplments, but on the MK-7 has been proven to address STC and mineralization disorders of the bones effectively as such small, safe doses. MK-7 is a integral part of the Calci-CLEAR product lines, that I suggest for anyone serious about their heart and bone health.
