My husband's first visit to the clinic resulted in him being sent for a cardiac stress test and a chest x-ray. (He had complained of some chest pain.) He was also given prescriptions for two medications, one being for depression and I'm not sure about the other one. Guess I'll have to look into it before my next post. Also put on the patch to stop smoking, but it was a low-dosing patch and really hasn't helped him. He says about the only thing it's done is keep him from waking up in the middle of the night wanting a smoke.
This past Wednesday, we had all our tests done. I met him at the doctor's office where he was having his stress test. The prognosis there was good...ticker's in good shape. From there, we went over to the hospital where he was going to have his chest x-ray and I was having my CT scan. He's a little worried about something showing up on the x-ray cuz a few years ago, he had a "spot" show up on one, but when he went back later, it wasn't there anymore. I was getting an MRI confused with the CT scan. The MRI is the tunnel, the CT scan is the "donut". That barium suspension they have you drink starting the night before is awful. They try to make it taste fruity, but it almost seems to make it worse. During the scan, you're also on an IV of something that highlights your organs and all (the barium highlights your digestive system). The IV makes your head and chest feel warm and makes a bad taste in your mouth and makes you feel like you're peeing on yourself. So, that was a new experience. Now I don't know whether to dread or to look forward to our next clinic visits, when we find out the results of our tests.
UPDATE: The two medications my husband was prescribed are: omeprazole, 20 mg once a day, for ulcers or acid-induced stomach problems and fluoxetine, 20 mg once a day, for depression and OCD. The first is basically the generic for Prevacid and the second is the generic for Prozac.
