Master Cleanse and Me by skinnyfatguy .....

This past April was rough. We got some nice weather here in Northern Illinois. I think the third weekend in April brought 75 degree weather. So, like a bear waking from hybernation, I went outside and stretched my legs only to discover that half the neighborhood was doing the same.

My neighbors. Nice, good people but they represent an avenue to what has become my achilles heel. DRINKING IN MY YARD...with my neighbors.

So that April day, while my intentions were to pick up the yard and clean the garage, turned into an all day party that included about 20 neighbors and 6 cases of beer.

That April day started a theme that had continued through this past Sunday. For the past month or so I have had a bad case of the "guilts". I have always been a social drinker but have never experienced the volume of the past 2 months. At the beginning of May I started marking my calender on every day I drank.

Here is the bad news. In the past 5 weeks I went 3 straight days without drinking only twice. In addition, went 2 days without drinking only once!

In the last 37 days I have had drinks(because it is never just one)24 days. That is basically 2 out of every three days. That is bad, and the summer is only getting started.

Don't even get me started on my eating habits. Here is an example of an average day for me:

Yesterday, I started the day off with three 16 oz. cups of black coffee, had a chocolate donut, and then drank three more cups of coffee. For lunch, I stopped at a gas station and spotted the hot dog rotisserie. I purchased two of the taco-like cylinders filled with God knows what. Wolfed them down and then stopped at home to raid the icebox because I was still hungry. Went with a nice sized bowl of left-over potato salad and cole slaw. That evening my wife made a nice dinner: baked pasta with steamed broccoli and garlic bread. After a generous helping I made the trip to my Brother's house. He was having a New Orleans-themed smoker. While there I had a smoked a fine cigar, drank three glasses of scotch and ate a giant helping of Jambalaya. After that I called it a night.

So my body needs a break. For mostof my adult life I have kept in pretty decent shape. I once trained for and ran a marathon. I have always been active, playing in basketball and softball leagues.

A few years ago a severe knee injury took basketball out of routine. Last year a second injury to this knee eliminated softball and running all together. A back injury followed and exercising hasn't consistantly been part of mylife for almost a year.

For the first time in my life I am getting fat. Seriously.

I am 6'4" 210 lbs. I know, it doesn't sound bad but it is. I was 6'4" 164 LBS when I graduated high school. In 2000, when I was 26, I weighed 168. The last 5+ years I have put on 42 lbs. The thing is I have small frame, not a bulky guy. So, I estimate my ideal weight for my body would be around 185-190.

I HAVE BECOME THE WORLD'S SKINNIEST FAT GUY.

If you would see me without my shirt on you would know what I am talking about.

So I need a fresh start. I decided to try the Master Cleanse, not just for detoxification, but hopefully to eliminate some bad habits for good.

I start the diet tonight with the Senna tea. I will chronicle the next 10+ days in this blog.

Oh, by the way, in addition to the drinking and eating like a pig I also am a smoker.
Triple threat guy.
