to do with what I will

I appreciate music because it evokes feelings in me I cannot
evoke on my own. I appreciate that processing is healing so
keeping this processing coming is something I am interested in.
I listen to music a lot.
While yet another twist of fate found me standing over my
harddrive, watching it belly up and float away, I turned yet
again to nature, and music to comfort my soul and to allow
myself to release that frustration and come back into balance.
One song I found, on a CD I received as a gift recently, was a
song called "Today is Mine". The version I have is sung acapella
by Tommy Emmanuel. I first heard of Tommy from Chet Atkins who
was a friend of ours and by virtue of Chet's enthusiasm about him,
we immediately became fans as well.

Without my daily ritual of drinking water as the computer powered up,
I would wake up and go out and watch the sun come up, get my feet wet
in the dewy grass and try my own hand at singing from memory, "Today
is Mine". It had the sentiments I wanted to hold near as we, as a nation,
processed the past, Katrina, and 9-11. It was very healing....

Today Is Mine
When the sun came up this morning
I took the time to watch it rise
And as its beauty struck the darkness
From the sky
I thought how small and unimportant
All my troubles seem to be
And how lucky another day
Belongs to me
And as the sleepy world around me
Woke up to greet the day
All its silent beauty
Seemed to say
So what, my friend, if all your dreams
You haven't realized
Just look around you
You've got a new day to try
Today is mine, today is mine
To do with what I will
Today is mine
My own special cup to fill
To die a little that I might learn to live
To take from life that I might learn to give
Today is mine
Like most men I curse the present
Void of peace of mind
And race my thoughts beyond tomorrow
Envision there a sweeter time
But as I view this day around me
I can see the fool I've been
For today's the only garden
That we can tend
Today is mine, today is mine
To do with what I will
Today is mine
My own special cup to fill
To die a little that I might learn to live
To take from life that I might learn to give
Today is mine

So often we seem to chase our emotions around in our head and
these emotions are also often the ones we use to inspire ourselves
to engage in eating behaviors which no longer serve us.
Using music as a tool to *feel* and to release emotions can be
a tremendous aid in bringing us into an attitude of gratitude,
hope and healing.
In Master Cleansing, we become focused on healing and dusting off
our CDs, Ipods, or vinyl collections can be a valuable tool in
facilitating finding our joy, or our grief, or even our silence.
Some of these emotions will remain valuable to us, and others, we
will realize we no longer want to hold onto. Allowing ourselves to
release those we no longer need or want, we make room in our day,
in our lives, for the things we do want.
Today is yours, to do with what you will....
I wish you peace and understanding~~
blessings,
Zoe
