some thoughts on money/finances

I'm going to talk about how I'm doing with finances since I've been married. It's been a little over a month now. Today my husband and I had a near trainwreck with an overdrawn checking account. Plus, I was grocery shopping and I did a very stupid thing. I put back the two pack of papertowels and I still needed one dollar extra to pay for all my groceries that added up to $39. I was ashamed that all I had to spend on groceries was a little money and it seemed at the time people were looking...I used my debit card to put the extra four dollars instead of putting back some of the groceries. I had put some money into our account earlier but it didn't occur to me that just because I deposit four dollars to cover the four I spent in the store, doesn't mean that there will not be an additional overdraft fee. So there it is... I paid my $29 stupid tax for pride.
I've estimated our present grocery expense to be about $100 per week for the both of us. This lady spends one fourth that PER MONTH. http://www.betterbudgeting.com/articles/parenting/oneincome.htm
I am getting away from cooking, as I'm eating mostly raw foods so I'd make casseroles for my husband. He eats meat and so on. The thing with planting a garden is true. I paid $3.50 for vine ripe tomatoes today. I won't be doing that again. I'll have to do without them for now till my FIL's tomatoes come in. Part of the reason why I'm converting this blog into a financial/life blog is so I can see how someone lives on less but with quality foods, esp. quality RAW/LIVING foods. For instance, I bought a bag of lentils for one dollar and I'm sprouting some now. That's quality protein and other nutrients. I am also sprouting garbanzo beans.
