Coalition Warns Texas Legislators: Taxpayers, Insurance Consumers Pay for Abortion Risks - Breast Cancer, Premature Birth / Coalition Asks, "Why Fund Planned Parenthood?"
The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer notes that abortion enthusiasts in the Texas legislature want to pass a bill that would penalize crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) for warning expectant mothers about what they've labeled "medically inaccurate" risks of abortion.
"This is a cunning way to force CPCs to keep expectant mothers in the dark about both the debated and accepted breast cancer risks of abortion," asserted Karen Malec, president of the Coalition.
"Taxpayers and insurance consumers are paying for the adverse health consequences of abortion, not to mention the costs of special education for prematurely born children with cerebral palsy. Why isn't Planned Parenthood's government funding being challenged? Abortion is a contra-indicated procedure."
The CPCs' information does not differ from the information in the state's booklet on abortion, 'A Woman's Right to Know,' which warns about the risks of breast cancer, premature birth (acknowledged by the Institute of Medicine) [1], emotional harm and infertility.
It says that an early first full term pregnancy (FFTP) protects women from breast cancer. The earlier a woman has her FFTP, the lower her risk is.
The loss of the protective effect is a universally recognized risk of abortion that has been firmly entrenched in medical texts since the landmark study by Harvard researchers, MacMahon et al. 1970. [2]
"The National Cancer Institute recognizes the protective effect of an early FFTP," said Malec. "The breasts do not mature into cancer-resistant tissue until the last months of a FFTP."
The booklet warns about a second breast cancer risk - the independent link - which scientists still debate. It says, "there are studies that have found an increased risk," but "some studies have found no overall risk."
"This second risk would mean that abortion leaves the mother with more cancer-vulnerable breast lobules than she had before she became pregnant," explained Mrs. Malec.
These graphs show the total risk increase:
