Tonight I ran into the store for a few things (I go to the store a lot - I never really "stock up." I LOVE the grocery store! ha ha).
The line was a little bit long, so I ended up having a light chat with the woman behind me. I really hadn't even noticed what she was buying, then she said, "I see you got all nourishing things. I am getting these things for somebody else." I looked in her basket and she had a carton of refrigerated Tropicana orange juice, a bunch of bananas, and a clear plastic container of bakery sugar cookies with pink icing. She added, "He asked for the orange juice and the bananas. I got the cookies so he'd eat."
Well first of all, this is the healthiest purchase I've posted so far. The bananas and orange juice are pretty decent. Obviously the cookies are bad, but 2 out of 3 isn't so bad.
Now this person had requested the 2 healthy items. This lady purchased cookies unrequested (out of concern?). Will this person eat them? What made this lady think think that it would be good to give someone else cookies? Why not some fresh organic apples or some other fruit to go along with the bananas?
Is this person sick? Disabled? Skinny? Why is she concerned?
I wish I knew!!!!
I do know one pattern: People buy junk food as a gift to other people.
