Some Fantastic Recipes That Utilize the Super Incredible Amazing Source of Nutrition That is Chia

Date:   2/25/2006 8:37:00 AM ( 18 y ago)

I have recently discovered chia seeds and I really love them. They are tremendous source of energy, protein, essential fatty acids, calcium and trace minerals. These are a wonderful addition to any diet, especially if you are trying to go raw, have low energy, are dealing with blood sugar issues, or are trying to lose weight. Here are some recipes I came up with. I hope they inspire you to try chia today. I would love any feedback on these if anyone tries one!

Quick note: I buy my chia seeds from my local health coop, but you can buy them online from here.

Basic Chia

3 Parts Water
1 Part Chia Seeds
Optional - Celtic Sea Salt to taste

Combine water and seeds in glass container, mix well. Let sit for five minutes, then mix well again, making sure the water and seeds are thoroughly combines. Let sit for an hour or two. It will set up in a very nice gelatin solution. Use more water to get a more liquidy form, less for a more solid form. The least amount of water you can use successfully is 2 parts water to 1 part seeds, but that may be too little water depending.

Chia Power Punch

¾ cup water
¼ cup chia seeds
1 teaspoon honey enriched with royal jelly
2- 3 pinches Celtic Sea Salt
10 drops Concentrace Liquid Minerals
Optional: ½ - 1 teaspoon of your favorite super food powder such as Dr. Schulze’s Super Food or Green Magma, Green Alchemy etc. If you do this increase water to 1 full cup.

Dissolve honey into water at room temperature, do not heat. For the royal jelly enriched honey you can either buy it from Y.S. organics, or you can make it yourself. To make it buy 1 ounce pure royal jelly (the refrigerated kind from the health food store) and slowly mix it into 4 - 8 oz of raw honey. Do not heat or you will destroy nutrients.
Add salt and mineral drops (and super food powder if you choose to) to water and stir. Add chia seeds, mix thoroughly. Let sit a few minutes, then mix again. Set in refrigerator. You may want to mix it again 10 - 20 minutes later. In one to two hours this will set up and be ready to eat.

Chia Fat Burner

1 cup water
1/3 cup chia seeds
1 - 2 pinches Celtic sea salt
Stevia to taste

Mix ingredients together, let sit. Ready in one to two hours or less.

How I use these recipes

Chia is virtually tasteless. This is good news, because it means it can be blended into virtually anything. All smoothies are better with a little chia added to it. And adding dry chia seeds is not recommended, the water soaked seeds are ready for digesting, the dry seeds are way to tough on the system. I put the basic chia on salads, in smoothies, eat it plain for a snack, put it in soups, the possibilities are endless.

Take a little of the Chia Power Punch first thing in the morning along with some spirulina or chlorella after you drink your favorite fresh juice. That will give you lots of energy. I like to snack on this throughout the day, whenever I feel a bit low in energy. It is amazing how a very small amount of this will kick you into gear and give you the energy you need to keep going. It is a very sustained release of energy with chia, not a quick spike and then a crash. You can tweak the recipe, add less honey for instance if you are sugar sensitive. Or you could try black strap mollases, sorghum, or agave instead of honey.

I am not trying to lose weight so I do not use the fat burner, though I would be interested to hear if anyone does try it. I know chia gives a very nice surge of energy on very small amounts, and without any sugar, how could you not loose weight? Anyway, let me know if this works for anyone.

I will do one more blog on chia - the science behind the super source that is chia!!!
