Infinate Compassion by Karlin .....

Infinate Compassion is about seeing others in an understanding light ; heal with it, don't just deal with it ;

Infinate Compassion could mean various things to people, but I use it in practical ways, so to me it means that I will try to understand why another person is the way they are, or do what they do.

{note- I got the idea, the term 'infinate compassion', from the Dalia Lama, he has a different way of using it, although our definitions overlap a lot]

When they do things that are inconsiderate or harmfull to others, there is likely a reason behind it. In fact, there HAS to be a set of circumstances leading up to their behavior and I will endevour to discover what that all is before I pass judgement on anyone. And I find I am not passing judgement once I see their motivation, their situation.

In understanding "why that guy stole from me", for eg. , I get the benefit of having less stress over it, knowing that he was not so much attacking me as just serving his own needs, and using me. Its easy to play victim when trespassed against, but that can double your loss in those events like theft. You will be taking it personally.

But the big benefit may be to society. We will not be happy people if we live in a nasty society where we have to be victims all day. Instead, I propose that we will have a nicer society when we practise infinate compassion. Looking at the motives for stealing for eg., the thief will be understood on his terms, within the boundary of his life and ecperiences, and then it will be seen why he stole and alternative ways of getting what he needs will be discussed and facilitated.

This is not about law and order, that was just a good example.

Personal relations are the real pudding here. When an addiction, for eg., takes over a parents life, the children of that parent will tend to use infinate compassion almost be default, out of love. They will know the parent is, for eg., just trying to relieve pain and got addicted to painkillers. Its not that the addicted parent hates their kids... but it is amazing how many kids go straight to that conclusion if they don't go to understanding.

When 'someone' was not willing to accomodate me, not willing to be nice to me, by stopping a behavior of theirs that trespassed on my privacy or quiet or whatever, I could attack him or I could use infinate compassion; it would mean I look at his stress level, time pressures, and maybe see if he has a midset of dominating everything around them as a way to deal with a terrible insecurity. Ya never know, not until you take a look and try to see with infinate compassion. From there, we have an actual opportunity to heal it instead of just deal with it.

There is more to this, I will continue in a reply.

For one thing, Infinate Compassion can be taken to the world of global politics, and used to end wars, maybe all wars. Simply understand Saddam, or Islam, or even Taliban, and from there try to heal instead of dealing in oil.

Infinate Compassion, used in settings like religion, would have people trying to understand why others are different, rather than condemming then to hell. Judgmental social engineering has a hugely negative impact on most people, even the one who thrive after conforming are "not all they could be or could be or should be" under the doctrine and authority of most religions.

But used in personal ways, I.C. can trasnform overnight. Your relationships will change immediately, although people will need some time to get used to your new outlook. You will find they continue to judge you as you had previously judged them. That gives you the ability to know who is on the path of IC or not.

I have yet to find a negative effect of IC, even the expected problem of "people taking advantage of me because they know I will not judge them" has not surfaced, as if people are transformed just by knowing that I will be using IC.

...as if people are transformed just by knowing I practise IC
- was worth saying twice eh?

more to come,
Karlin

conservatives really hate this stuff
