A Common Sense Primer on How Treat Herpes Naturally

The virus is going to be in your body for life, and believe it or not, it greatly prefers to stay dormant, much like it's cousin the chicken-pox virus that is also a member of the herpes family of viruses and also in your body for life.

1. Forgive the person who gave you herpes. Even if you were deceived and put at risk without your consent holding on the anger and resentment not only aggravates your health but it also binds your psychologically to a negative event which you are powerless to change.

2. Forgive yourself for having herpes. Many people with herpes feel dirty, ashamed, ostracized and compromised by having what is for most people a simple skin infection no worse than a moderate case of eczema. Accept that you have herpes and that you’ll likely have it for the rest of your life and understand that having herpes doesn’t make you less moral, less ethical, less attractive, less worthy in any way than before you became infected.

3. Get out of the closet. Most of the stigma around herpes is self-imposed by those of us-including myself who have herpes. Tell your close friends and family members that you have herpes. Reach out for support and understanding the same way you would if you had a non-sexually transmitted disease. Most often they way others will react to you is a reflection of how you feel about and project yourself. The more you are at peace with your herpes the more likely it will be that you will find support and understanding in the community around you. Sixty percent of the adult population has herpes 1 or 2 so you are a member of the majority not some obscure minority.

4. Work on your triggers. Herpes only re-activates itself when you trigger it with stress, too much sun exposure, bad dietary choices, and unprotected sex with someone else with herpes, a Candida yeast problem, too little sleep or too much partying. Herpes is like a seed in a desert. It will stay asleep indefinitely if the signal to germinate isn't given.

5. Make peace with the virus. Either through prayer, or creative visualizations, or meditations, or affirmations or any combination of the former-make a peaceful accommodation with the virus. Let go of anger and resentment and angst. If you maintain balance and peace in your mind and body herpes will become a relative non-factor in your life.

For diet- avoid caffeine in all forms including chocolate, coffee, green tea, black tea. Avoid nicotine and excessive alcohol consumption. Avoids all nuts and seeds except for hemp seeds and flax seeds. Avoids raisins, carob, and gelatin and cereal grains. Eat a low-sugar diet with only moderate amounts of whole grain bread and whole grain pasta.

* Reach for the foods rich in omega fatty acids such as hemp and flax seeds. Salmon, tuna, sardines and mackerel. Avocadoes and olives. Eat organic yoghurt daily with at least 2.5% milk fat. Eat lots of garlic or take a garlic supplement. Eat brewers yeast or take a selenium supplement.

* Take up yoga or tai-chi or qi-gong. Punch a punching bag or play some tennis, racquetball or squash.

• Avoid L-lysine. Long-term use of L-lysine can actually impair your immune system. Get your lysine from your diet rather than a pill.

• Avoid magical quick-fixes for herpes such as dmso and hydrogen peroxide, nonoxydol-9, etc. There are no quick-fixes for herpes.
