How manipulation of truth is carried out.

Mass Mind Control?

July 23, 2005: Funny thing: I'm taking a French class in Toulouse. In the class, I met two Americans who vacation on their boat for two months every year. It is currently tied up in Toulouse. He is retired from advertising, she is a school teacher who will retire next year. They made a few remarks about the U.S. and creeping fascism, so I decided to invite them down to the house for an afternoon chat.
Well, of course, we gradually approached the subject of 9-11, but right there they balked. Yes, they firmly believe that a bunch of Fundies have taken over the government and they don't like it, but they just had a lot of trouble "going there" when considering the idea that 9-11 was designed to facilitate the Fundie take-over, and that the "Fundie" position itself was probably a manipulation.
So, we lent them David Ray Griffen's book, The New Pearl Harbor, to sort of "break it to them gently." After a few days, they gave it back with a sort of stunned look in their eyes, and I gave them a couple more: Thierry Meyssan's books. A day or so later, the fellow told me: okay, I can accept that the government might be complicit in 9-11... but if a 757 didn't hit the Pentagon, what happened to IT?
And that's where they got stuck.
They know all about Pearl Harbor and other similar events, they understand that the U.S. government can, has and DOES engage in covert operations in order to get the public to support whatever power mongering urge they may have at the moment, but that was THEN and this is NOW. It can't happen NOW! Even though they say "yeah, we agree that nothing about the Pentagon makes a lick of sense, it sure does SEEM like there was no 757, but where is the 757, what happened to the people on it? How could so many people keep quiet?"
Ah, the 64,000 Dollar Question.
I recently had an exchange with Robin Ramsay, Editor of Lobster magazine. The context of the exchange was related to his recent "Konspiracy Korner" piece published in Fortean Times, one of my favorite magazines (though I am now wondering just what is going on over there at FT?)
After writing a rather long post that included a lot of chunks of material from our research and the research of others, Mr. Ramsay opined:
"Ultimately it comes down to how you see the world. The kind of conspiracy you are describing, or implying, is inconceivable to me: too big, too complex, too likely to go wrong or be discovered, ever to be mounted. What you are describing ... is vastly much bigger - and more complex and more dangerous - than any known mind control/psy ops project. And there is no evidence for it. [...]
Those - like you - who argue for a U.S. state conspiracy are proposing a massive, multi-agency conspiracy of a kind which has never been seen before. All the U.S. state agencies hate each other and barely co-operate, engage in endless turf wars. The kind of inter-agency operation you are proposing simply has never existed in peace time. It is inconceivable to me that such a group could be got together. And this is probably the main reason that the official U.S. state organisations and politicians have never taken the conspiracy theories seriously. They know how the U.S. state operates and thus dismiss this idea at the outset. (And the official inquiry into 9-11 is full of examples of the hostility between state agencies.) In reality, when the planes hit the towers a large slice of the U.S. military and intelligence bodies immediately thought of Bin Laden. And they have never had a good reason to change their minds - not least because Bin Laden and his various cohorts have admitted - boasted of - doing it."
And there is the rub: undoubtedly, Robin Ramsay's remarks are "on target" in many respects. And yet, there is the mountain of evidence - much of it circumstantial but so compelling that it would be accepted in a court of law - that there IS such a gigantic conspiracy, and that the "power elite" - individuals who may be completely unknown to us since the highest level politicians and bankers may only be their "pawns" - are somehow, at the top of the heap, controlling everything beneath them including the governments of various countries.
Boy, does that ever sound crazy! But before you reject such an idea out of hand, let me quote a bit from an article I wrote shortly after the Oklahoma City bombing:
"When I saw the face of the alleged Oklahoma Bomber, Timothy McVeigh, I knew I had seen that expression before. I couldn't quite place the memory until a few days later when I read a newspaper account that reported McVeigh as saying that the government had implanted a computer chip in his hip to track him! The bells rang and the lightbulb lighted and I remembered where I had seen that "face" before.
He was young, about 26 or 27, blond, blue-eyed, clean- cut, powerfully built and definitely suffering. His body- language said it all. The young man sitting across from me in my hypnotherapy consulting room was overwhelmed by terror. His eyes darted to the right and the left as though expecting a blow from any quarter, and he was coiled as tightly as an overwound clock spring. His story was not entirely unique, but the level to which it had affected him was profound, possibly the worst I had seen, and I knew he needed help NOW.
Several months ago I was contacted by the owner of a large book store in a nearby city. She frequently refers clients to me for hypnosis. Generally they are the run-of-the-mill New Agers desiring past-life regressions out of simple curiosity, but sometimes the situations are quite serious and troubling. Luke's case, (a pseudonym) was one of the latter.
Maggie, (pseudonym), the book store owner, sponsors and promotes many book signings, seminars and classes that are held in the reading room of her store and she had met Luke at one of these. She knew something was troubling him, but it was some time before he confided in her. Now, he was telling his story to me.
"The government is experimenting on me," he revealed in embarrassed anguish. "I don't know why or how, but there are a lot of people in on this and they are trying to drive me crazy."
"What makes you think the government is experimenting on you?" I asked.
"I KNOW they are. They have my house bugged, my phone is tapped, they have some kind of thing planted in me to control my thoughts, and they have people everywhere watching me."
"What kind of people are watching you, where are they, and how do you know this?"
"The people who live around me are part of the project. They have them planted everywhere -- at McDonalds, at the laundromat, in the stores, at the restaurant, where I work. They put drugs into my food to knock me out and then they come and take me and experiment on me. Then, when they put me back, I can hear the people next door discussing me." He paused and looked at me pleadingly. "I know you think I am crazy, but you have to believe me. Something REAL is happening to me. It is not just in my mind and I am not making it up. I sleep with a gun under my pillow because someday they are going to make a mistake and I am not going to be completely out when they come!"
And the story goes on. Luke's anguish, paranoia and utter terror were real and tangible. This kid really believed what he was saying. For a few moments I toyed with the thought that he really ought to be hospitalized immediately as a danger to himself and others, but, the thing is, I had heard this sort of thing before to one extent or another. [Note: Because of the nature of his problems and the possibility that he was, in fact, manifesting schizophrenia, I DID refer him to a local psychological unit for evaluation. Whether he went or not, I'll probably never know, but I knew that a case as severe as his was simply out of my range of expertise and ethical responsibility.]
Last year I met a young woman at a local gathering for people interested in Eastern Healing Techniques. She was a well-to-do stockbroker's wife, stylish and vivacious. But, she took me aside and told me that her life was crashing around her because she had gone out for a drink with one of her husband's co-workers and he had taken her out to a remote area and she couldn't remember what happened to her there. She was sure, from bits and pieces she could pull together in her head, that this guy was a government agent, he had been a Navy S.E.A.L., her phone was tapped, they were watching her, and she was the subject of some kind of government experiment. She was distraught to the point of being unable to function. Her marriage was falling apart, her children were virtually abandoned by her efforts to find out what was going on in her life, and she was on the brittle edge of a breakdown.
In recent months I have talked to a dozen or more people who whisper to me about "white vans, death camps," the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" and the institution of martial law. They seem to be roughly divided into two groups: those who are involved in metaphysics and UFO phenomena and those who are not. The former group tend to talk about conspiracy in terms of "UFO cover-up" and captured "alien technology" which is going to be used by the Industrial-Military Complex to control us and then institute a One World Government. The latter group, resurrecting the frightening specter of pre-Nazi thought and philosophy, interprets the conspiracy as an event or series of historical events, leading up to this moment in time wherein the groundwork is being laid for the dreaded "New World Order." They blame it on the Jews, the Blacks, the Masons, the Templars, and assorted other "secret societies" which have infiltrated and control the government.
And now we have the Oklahoma Bombing. What are we to make of all of this?
Well, FDR was reported as having once said that "nothing in politics happens by accident." If any event leads to a specific result, we have the right to conjecture that that result was the desired objective and to ask: cui bono? Who benefits?
So, what did I find out from my various subjects who were being "persecuted by the government?" In all cases, after one or more hypnosis sessions, the scenario that played itself out was quite similar. All claimed to have been repeatedly abducted by "aliens" since childhood and their abductors were the ubiquitous Grays. All claimed to have been implanted with control and measuring devices which both transmitted and received. All claimed to have been given screen memories that the abductions were done by humans in uniform. In several cases, I was able to demonstrate that the so-called "Grey Aliens" were, in fact, a screen memory of HUMAN abductions!
And, what about Timothy McVeigh? Well, Dr. Jacques Vallee once proposed the idea that one way to stop a train is to accelerate it to the point that it jumps the track. I think this is what we are dealing with here.
Was Timothy McVeigh abducted and implanted? Was he controlled and manipulated to do what he did? We have only to look at the POLITICAL results to see what the objective was. What is the rhetoric in the media? What institutional actions are being taken? What public feeling is being engendered by this event? Remember, nothing in politics happens by accident, from Pearl Harbor, the assassination of JFK, to the Oklahoma Bombing. We are all victims."
The late Jim Keith, one of the foremost writers and researchers on political conspiracy in the wold in recent times wrote in his book, Mass Control:
"Agents of the world's elite have been long engaged in a war on the populace of Earth. Greed is the motivation for this war, a greed so pervasive that it encompasses the planet and all of the beings on it, but in recent times a philosophy has been used to justify that greed. It is the philosophy of mass control, that ultimately aims at dictating every aspect of human life - even remolding man's perception of reality and himself." [Jim Keith, Mass Control: Engineering Human Consciousness]
There is a little known fact about hypnosis that is illustrated by the following story:
A subject was told under hypnosis that when he was awakened he would be unable to see a third man in the room who, it was suggested to him, would have become invisible. All the "proper" suggestions to make this "true" were given, such as "you will NOT see so- and-so" etc... When the subject was awakened, lo and behold! the suggestions did NOT work.
Why? Because they went against his belief system. He did NOT believe that a person could become invisible.
So, another trial was made. The subject was hypnotized again and was told that the third man was leaving the room... that he had been called away on urgent business, and the scene of him getting on his coat and hat was described... the door was opened and shut to provide "sound effects," and then the subject was brought out of the trance.
Guess what happened?
He was UNABLE TO SEE the Third Man.
Why? Because his perceptions were modified according to his beliefs. Certain "censors" in his brain were activated in a manner that was acceptable to his ego survival instincts.
The ways and means that we ensure survival of the ego are established pretty early in life by our parental and societal programming. This conditioning determines what IS or is NOT possible; what we are "allowed" to believe in order to be accepted. We learn this first by learning what pleases our parents and then later we modify our belief based on what pleases our society - our peers - to believe.
Anyway, to return to our story, the Third Man went about the room picking things up and setting them down and doing all sorts of things to test the subject's awareness of his presence, and the subject became utterly hysterical at this "anomalous" activity! He could see objects moving through the air, doors opening and closing, but he could NOT see the SOURCE because he did not believe that there was another man in the room.
So, what are the implications of this factor of human consciousness? (By the way, this is also the reason why most therapy to stop bad habits does not work - they attempt to operate against a "belief system" that is imprinted in the subconscious that this or that habit is essential to survival.)
One of the first things we might observe is that everyone has a different set of beliefs based upon their social and familial conditioning, and that these beliefs determine how much of the OBJECTIVE reality anyone is able to access.
In the above story, the objective reality IS WHAT IT IS, whether it is truly objective, or only a consensus reality. In this story, there is clearly a big part of that reality that is inaccessable to the subject due to a perception censor which was activated by the suggestions of the hypnotist. That is to say, the subject has a strong belief, based upon his CHOICE as to who or what to believe - the hypnotist or his own, unfettered observations of reality. In this case, he has chosen to believe the hypnotist and not what he might be able to observe if he dispensed with the perception censor put in place by the hypnotist who activated his "belief center" - even if that activation was fraudulent.
And so it is with nearly all human beings: we believe the hypnotist - the "official culture" - and we are able, with preternatural cunning, to deny what is often right in front of our faces. And in the case of the hypnosis subject, he is entirely at the mercy of the "Invisible Man" because he chooses not to see him.
Let's face it: we are all taught to avoid uncomfortable realities. Human beings - faced with unpleasant truths about themselves or their reality - react like alcoholics who refuse to admit their condition, or the cuckolded husband who is the "last to know," or the wife who does not notice that her husband is abusing her daughter.
In States of Denial: Knowing about Atrocities and Suffering, (Cambridge: Polity Press; Malden, MA: Blackwell Publishers, 2001), Stanley Cohen discusses the subject of denial which may shed some light on the subject.
Denial is a complex "unconscious defence mechanism for coping with guilt, anxiety and other disturbing emotions aroused by reality."
Denial can be both deliberate and intentional, as well as completely subconscious. An individual who is deliberately and intentionally denying something is acting from an individual level of lying, concealment and deception. Among the larger population of decent human beings, this is not our problem. It is certainly the problem with those at the top, who then exert a controlling influence on the masses of humanity, but when we talk about ordinary people, what we are dealing with is denial that is subconscious and therefore organized and "institutional." This implies propaganda, misinformation, whitewash, manipulation, spin, disinformation, etc.
Believing anything that comes down the pike is not the opposite of denial. "Acknowledgement" of the probability of a high level of Truth about a given matter is what should happen when people are actively aroused by certain information. This information can be 1) factual or forensic truth; that is to say, legal or scientific information which is factual, accurate and objective; it is obtained by impartial procedures; 2) personal and narrative truth including "witness testimonies." The timeline to which these remarks serve as an introduction, attempts to provide as many of these elements as possible.
I should add here that skepticism and solipsistic arguments - including epistemological relativism - about the existence of objective truth, are generally a social construction and might be considered in the terms of the hypnotized man who has been programmed to think that there "is no truth" so why bother even looking for it?
Denial occurs for a variety of reasons. There are truths that are "clearly known," but for many reasons - personal or political, justifiable or unjustifiable - are concealed, or it is agreed that they will not be acknowledged "out loud." There are "unpleasant truths" and there are truths that make us tired because if we acknowledge them - if we do more than give them a tacit nod - we may find it necessary to make changes in our lives.
Cohen points out that "All counter-claims about the denied reality are themselves only manoeuvres in endless truth-games. And truth, as we know, is inseparable from power." Denial of truth is, effectively, giving away your power.
Now, let's take a brief look at science which is one of the mainstays of Official Culture.
As Ark has written, science seems to be controlled by money. Scientists, for the most part, HAVE to work on those things that get funding. There is nothing terribly unusual about that since that is a general rule for everyone. If you don't get money for your work, you starve and then you don't do any work at all. Yes, that's somewhat simplistic, but still relevant to the subject here.
Those who read our Timeline of secret and not-so-secret scientific projects - and those involved in them - may like to close their eyes to this evidence that science has most definitely been used in a very detrimental way in our world. After all, such ideas - when they are brought to public attention - are generally dismissed as "conspiracy theory" and are thus deemed unworthy of attention.
So please, bear with me a moment here and let's apply a little logic to the problem.
The first thing we want to think about is the fact that the word "conspiracy" evokes such a strong reaction in all of us: nobody wants to be branded as a "conspiracy theorist." It just isn't "acceptable." It's "un-scientific" or it's evidence of mental instability. Right? That's what you are thinking, isn't it?
In fact, I bet that the very reading of the word even produces certain physiological reactions: a slight acceleration of the heartbeat, and perhaps a quick glance around to make sure that no one was watching while you simply read the word silently.
Have you ever asked yourself WHY the word evokes such an instantaneous emotional reaction? Have you ever wondered why it stimulates such a strong "recoil?" After all, it is only a word. It only describes the idea of people in "high places" thinking about things and doing things that manipulate other people to produce benefits for themselves.
Richard M. Dolan studied at Alfred University and Oxford University before completing his graduate work in history at the University of Rochester, where he was a finalist for a Rhodes scholarship. Dolan studied U.S. Cold War strategy, Soviet history and culture, and international diplomacy. He has written about "conspiracy" in the following way:
"The very label [conspiracy] serves as an automatic dismissal, as though no one ever acts in secret. Let us bring some perspective and common sense to this issue.
The United States comprises large organizations - corporations, bureaucracies, "interest groups," and the like - which are conspiratorial by nature. That is, they are hierarchical, their important decisions are made in secret by a few key decision-makers, and they are not above lying about their activities. Such is the nature of organizational behavior. "Conspiracy," in this key sense, is a way of life around the globe.
Within the world's military and intelligence apparatuses, this tendency is magnified to the greatest extreme. During the 1940s, [...] the military and its scientists developed the world's most awesome weapons in complete secrecy... [...]
Anyone who has lived in a repressive society knows that official manipulation of the truth occurs daily. But societies have their many and their few. In all times and all places, it is the few who rule, and the few who exert dominant influence over what we may call official culture. - All elites take care to manipulate public information to maintain existing structures of power. It's an old game.
America is nominally a republic and free society, but in reality an empire and oligarchy, vaguely aware of its own oppression, within and without. I have used the term "national security state" to describe its structures of power. It is a convenient way to express the military and intelligence communities, as well as the worlds that feed upon them, such as defense contractors and other underground, nebulous entities. Its fundamental traits are secrecy, wealth, independence, power, and duplicity.
Nearly everything of significance undertaken by America's military and intelligence community in the past half-century has occured in secrecy. The undertaking to build an atomic weapon, better known as the Manhattan Project, remains the great model for all subsequent activities. For more than two years, not a single member of Congress even knew about it although its final cost exceeded two billion dollars.
During and after the Second World War, other important projects, such as the development of biological weapons, the importation of Nazi scientists, terminal mind-control experiments, nationwide interception of mail and cable transmissions of an unwitting populace, infiltration of the media and universities, secret coups, secret wars, and assassinations all took place far removed not only from the American public, but from most members of Congress and a few presidents. Indeed, several of the most powerful intelligence agencies were themselves established in secrecy, unknown by the public or Congress for many years.
Since the 1940s, the U.S. Defense and Intelligence establishment has had more money at its disposal than most nations. In addition to official dollars, much of the money is undocumented. From its beginning, the C.I.A. was engaged in a variety of off-the-record "business" activities that generated large sums of cash. The connections of the C.I.A. with global organized crime (and thus de facto with the international narcotics trade) has been well established and documented for many years. - Much of the original money to run the American intelligence community came from very wealthy and established American families, who have long maintained an interest in funding national security operations important to their interests.
In theory, civilian oversight exists over the US national security establishment. The president is the military commander-in-chief. Congress has official oversight over the C.I.A.. The F.B.I. must answer to the Justice Department. In practice, little of this applies. One reason has to do with secrecy. [...]
A chilling example of such independence occurred during the 1950s, when President Eisenhower effectively lost control of the U.S. nuclear arsenal. The situation deteriorated so much that during his final two years in office, Eisenhower asked repeatedly for an audience with the head of Strategic Air Command to learn what America's nuclear retaliatory plan was. What he finally learned in 1960, his final year in office, horrified him: half of the Northern Hemisphere would be obliterated.
If a revered military hero such as Eisenhower could not control America's nuclear arsenal, nor get a straight answer from the Pentagon, how on earth could Presidents Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, or Nixon regarding comparable matters?
Secrecy, wealth and independence add up to power. Through the years, the national security state has gained access to the wrorld's most sophisticated technology sealed off millions of acres of land from public access or scrutiny, acquired unlimited snooping ability within U.S. borders and beyond, conducted overt or clandestine actions against other nations, and prosecuted wars without serious media scrutiny. Domestically, it maintains influence over elected officials and communities hoping for some of the billions of defense dollars. [including scientists, universities, etc.]
Deception is the key element of warfare, and when winning is all that matters, the conventional morality held by ordinary people becomes an impediment. When taken together, the examples of official duplicity form a nearly single totality. They include such choice morsels as the phony war crisis of 1948, the fabricated missile gap claimed by the air force during the 1950s, the carefully managed events leading to the Gulf of Tonkin resolution... [...]
The secrecy stems from a pervasive and fundamental element of life in our world, that those who are at the top of the heap will always take whatever steps are necessary to maintain the status quo.
[S]keptics often ask, "Do you really think the government could hide [anything] for so long?" The question itself reflects ignorance of the reality that secrecy is a way of life in the National Security State. Actually though, the answer is yes, and no.
Yes, in that cover-ups are standard operating procedure, frequently unknown to the public for decades, becoming public knowledge by a mere roll of the dice. But also no, in that ... information has leaked out from the very beginning. It is impossible to shut the lid completely. The key lies in neutralizing and discrediting unwelcomed information, sometimes through official denial, other times through proxies in the media.
[E]vidence [of conspiracy] derived from a grass roots level is unlikely to survive its inevitable conflict with official culture. And acknowledgement about the reality of [conspiracies] will only occur when the official culture deems it worthwhile or necessary to make it. Don't hold your breath.
This is a widespread phenomenon affecting many people, generating high levels of interest, taking place in near-complete secrecy, for purposes unknown, by agencies unknown, with access to incredible resources and technology. A sobering thought and cause for reflection." [Richard Dolan]
Consider this: even if Dolan is writing specifically about America, in a world dominated by the United States, it must be considered that pressures are applied elsewhere from within this "national security state" to comply with the demands of the U.S..
Now, think about the word "conspiracy" one more time and allow me to emphasize the key point: From a historical point of view, the ONLY reality is that of conspiracy. Secrecy, wealth and independence add up to power. ...Deception is the key element of warfare, (the tool of power elites), and when winning is all that matters, the conventional morality held by ordinary people becomes an impediment. Secrecy stems from a pervasive and fundamental element of life in our world, that those who are at the top of the heap will always take whatever steps are necessary to maintain the status quo.
And maintaining the "status quo" in science HAS to be one of the main objectives of the Power Elite.
And how do they do that? By "Official Culture."
And official culture, understood this way, from the perspective of elite groups wishing to maintain the status quo of their power, means only one thing: COINTELPRO. And here we do not mean the specific F.B.I. program, but the concept of the program, and the likelihood that this has been the mode of controlling human beings for possibly millennia. Certainly, Machiavelli outlined the principles a very long time ago and little has changed since.
The fact is, I like to call it "Cosmic COINTELPRO" to suggest that it is almost a mechanical system that operates based on the psychological nature of human beings, most of whom LIKE to live in denial. After all, "if ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise." This is most especially true when we consider the survival instinct of the ego. If the official culture says that there is no Third Man in the room, and if it works through the inculcated belief systems, there is little possibility that the "subject" will be able to see the source of the phenomena in our world. It will always be an "invisible Third Man."
Usually, when we think of COINTELPRO, we think of the most well known and typical activities which include sending anonymous or fictitious letters - which are sometimes later withdrawn with an "apology" after they have already accomplished the goal of destruction; publishing false defamatory or threatening information; forging signatures on fake documents; introducing disruptive and subversive members into organizations to destroy them from within, and so on. Blackmailing insiders in any group to force them to spread false rumors, or to foment factionalism is also common.
What a lot of people don't keep in mind is the fact that COINTELPRO also concentrated on creating bogus organizations and promoting bogus ideas.
In the scientific community, this can work in any number of ways, the most common being "proprietary organizations" that fund research that leads nowhere in order to keep someone with promising ideas busy. It is not stretching things to consider that "exciting new ideas" or areas of research might be promoted for the express purpose of vectoring scientists into following false and time-wasting research so as to prevent them making significant breakthroughs. COINTELPRO was also famous for instigation of hostile actions through third parties. According to investigators, these F.B.I. programs were noteworthy because all documents relating to them were stamped "do not file." This meant that they were never filed in the system, and for all intents and purposes, did not exist. This cover was blown after activists broke into an F.B.I. office in Media, Pennsylvania in 1971. What we do not know is how far and wide the practice extends, though we can certainly guess.
There exists in our world today a powerful and dangerous secret cult.
So wrote Victor Marchetti, a former high-ranking C.I.A. official, in his book The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence. This is the first book the U.S. Government ever went to court to censor before publication. In this book, Marchetti tells us that there IS a "Cabal" that rules the world and that its holy men are the clandestine professionals of the Central Intelligence Agency.
In our opinion, the C.I.A. is but one "arm" of the cult, just as Benedictines were but one order of the Catholic Church. To borrow from, and paraphrasing, Marchetti:
"This cult is patronized and protected by the highest level government officials in the world. It's membership is composed of those in the power centers of government, industry, commerce, finance, and labor. It manipulates individuals in areas of important public influence - including the academic world and the mass media. The Secret Cult is a global fraternity of a political aristocracy whose purpose is to further the political policies of persons or agencies unknown. It acts covertly and illegally."
Jim Keith, wrote in his book, Mass Control:
"Although the lust for control can be discerned since the beginning of recorded history, a nexus of particular importance arose in Germany in the latter half of the 19th century. As the country increased in military and industrial might, becoming the strongest power in Europe, a revolution simultaneously took place in German philosophic and scientific thought that paradoxically would spread through the world to create positive technological change as well as to birth innumerable toxic children. According to one source:
The spread of materialistic philosophy of life was world-wide in this age, and the idolatry of power was not confinced to Germany, but its corrosive effect was particularly strong in a country that was not inured to power. [Germany, History Since 1850, Encyclopedia Americana, New York: Americana Corporation, 1963]
One aspect of this transformation, this "idolatry of power," was a negative transformation of the psychological sciences. In the late 19th century, earlier more humanistic approaches to understanding mankind were replaced by a scientific philosophy that would be employed less as a measure for the understanding of man than as a justification for a new feudalism and a mechanism of pure control.
The materialist overhauling of psychology was in great part ushered in by the work of the German psychologist Wilhelm Maximilian Wundt. Wundt was a professor of philosophy at the University of Leipzig, and in 1875 established the worlds first psychological laboratory there, a move that would eventually turn the world of more humanistic-oriented psychology on its head. Interesting, but Wundt's grandfather is documented as having been a member of the Illuminati secret society, making it not unreasonable to imagine that herr professor may also have been a member of that group.
Wundt, in reflection of a powerful materialistic groundswell in German thought that began with Schopenhauer at the beginning of the 19th century and that was to be later epitomized by Karl Marx, rejected in cavalier fashion the notion that man might have a soul or deeper significance than the merely physical, that he was in fact anything more than an animal. Following this line of reasoning, an approach that came to be known in psychology as Structuralism, Wundt insisted that all psychological studies should depend entirely on the study of body reactions. The truth of man, Wundt insisted, could be determined solely through mechanistic means: measurement, analysis, and dissection of bodies. After Wundt had thoroughly infused the psychological sciences with his materialist approach, many scientists - and the members of the ruling class that employed them - believed that they were justified in treating human beings as if they were pieces of meat, and as an overall plan of action, proceeded to do so.
The materialist psychological doctrine spread rapidly with at least twenty-four laboratories established by Wundt's students between the years 1883 and 1893, with more of the German's acolytes fanning out to infiltrate related fields, such as education. Wundt's materialistic approach would infect the thinking of most of the influential psycholgists, psychiatrists, educators, and social planners who would follow in the 20th century.
One man who marched to Wundt's dirge was the Russian, Ivan Petrovich Pavlov. Pavlov conducted a wide-ranging research into techniques of control, primarily using dogs for his experimentation. In the now-famous experiment, Pavlov fed his dogs, stimulating salivation, while at the same time ringing a bell. After doing this many times, Pavlov was able to stimulate salivation in reaction to the sound of the bell alone. Other of Pavlov's experiments involved rewarding dogs with petting, or punishing them with pain. Using these kinds of approaches, Pavlov developed his theory of the conditioned reflex, demonstrating that animals are motivated by patterns of conditioned response, and that conditioning can be artificially induced. The results of Pavlov's experiments did not escape the social planners of his day, nor those who would follow." [Jim Keith, Mass Control: Engineering Human Consciousness]
In recorded history, we find that the Elite, in their drive for power, have developed many means of controlling the minds of the masses. The earliest recorded such event was the appearance of Yahweh/Jehovah on the World Stage, and things went downhill (or became easier, depending on your point of view) from there. In the Eleventh Century, a fellow named Hasan bin Sabah took the idea to an all new level of direct mind control rather than just general social contros such as those effected by religion and tribal norms and taboos.
Hasan was said to have been a Persian of noble birth who fled Persia after becoming embroiled in a financial scandal at the Imperial Court. After finding sanctuary in Egypt, he is reported to have studied the teachings and organizational structure of an underground cult known as the Dar ul Hikmat.
During this same time frame, he is also said to have mastered the Dark Arts of Kaballah. This event was to have far reaching results. In actual fact, we here approach a very mysterious thing: a conjunction of Freemasonry and a Secret Cult of Judaism.
These fanatical groups, exercised from their inaccessible strongholds an influence out of all proportion to their size. On August 8, 1164, the Persian Nizariyya from their seat of Alamut, the 'Eagles Nest', proclaimed the 'Great Resurrection', the Paradise on Earth which no longer recognizes any law. This, seems to be the source of a much cited legend about the 'Assassinis'; the leaders secured the loyalty of their followers by intoxicating them with hashish so that they experienced the joys of paradise as described in the Koran. Translated back into the every-day world they awaited with the greatest impatience the death which would take them once more to the bliss which they had had a foretaste. [Sons of the Serpent Tribe]
Formally known as the Shiah Ismai, this infamous sect claimed to hold secret truths, and it can be noted, by the careful researcher, there there may have been Gnostic tendencies among the so-called Assassini, who very well may have been vilified after the fact, as is so often the case with any group that seeks to propagate knowledge. The general view of the Assassini today is that it was a terrorist organization that sought to impose its will upon the Islamic World by systematically assassinating political figures that opposed its ends. I am still trying to find the evidence for these claims, but so far, it is all hearsay and the only thing we know for sure is that the Assissini were crushed by the Mongols in 1250. It is said that the Assassini shook the Moslem world to it's foundations, but we wonder if that might not have been for a different reason, perhaps the same reason that the Cathars were, at the same time, shaking the foundations of the Catholic world?
In any event, according to the legends, Hasan created a virtual paradise in a valley beneath his mountain citadel to recruit and train initiates. That sounds a lot like the great underground enclave that Osama bin Laden was said to have created in Tora Bora which later proved to be only a series of primitive caves, little more than horizontal fox holes.
Hasan is said to have dispatched his followers to the public houses of the area, where they would drug and kidnap young men, and transport them to the valley. There they would awaken from their stupor to find themselves in luxurious surroundings, tended to by scores of beautiful young women. Having been informed by the maidens that they had been transported to Paradise by angels, the hapless victims would spend their days gorging upon wine, sex and mind-altering drugs. Then they would mysteriously re-awaken in their former surroundings, alone and bereft. Months might pass without incident as they resumed their ordinary and miserable lives; but then suddenly and mysteriously, they would reawaken in what they credulously believed to be the Muslim Heaven. After three or four such experiences, most became willing slaves to Hasan and his murderous schemes. Persuaded that Hasan was Allah made manifest upon the Earth, they killed their assigned targets without pity or remorse; and then went willingly to their deaths, certain of their place in Paradise.
That sounds a bit like what is happening nowadays in the U.S. among the so-called "abductee" and "contactee" populations.
Returning to our timeline, it seems that the methods of terrorism attributed to the Assassini were actually being practiced by the Catholic Church in it's crusade against the Cathars.
After years of brutal massacres, of destruction of the land, of some of the most horrible events ever to bear witness of man’s inhumanity to man, Pope Gregory IX decided that it was only results that counted. He intended to wipe Catharism from the face of the earth. He must have sat up at night to create the bizarre system that was put into place to deal with heresy.
First, he created special papal legates who were granted wide powers of prosecution similar to what we have today in the Homeland Security nonsense, and sent them out all over Europe. The men chosen for this task were clearly psychopaths, and their mission was to spread terror all over Europe.
Gregory staffed the episcopal palaces of the South of France with psychopathic bishops who offered a cash bounty to anyone who betrayed a heretic. The inducements to betray one's neighbor were surely tempting in the best of times. But in a time when starvation and destruction was everywhere after more than 20 years of the rampaging of the Crusading armies, it was well-nigh impossible to resist. The terms were that the property confiscated from the heretic was divided between the informer, the church and the crown. Naturally, in a land that was financially devastated, where people were displaced and starving after years of being battered by this same church and crown, there were a lot of individuals offering up their neighbors for blood money.
Robert le Bourgre, which means "the bugger", suggesting the contempt in which he was held by the peopele, terrorized formerly peaceful northern France. Another legate, Conrad of Marburg found unsuspected heretics everywhere in the Rhineland. Thousands were sent to the stake, often on the same day that they were accused. Again, sure sounds like Bush and his private torture chamber at Guantanamo. Conrad rode about on his mule with two assistants, bringing terror to every village and town they approached. Apparently, even the regular clergy saw through this nonsense and finally decided to do something about it. On July 30, 1233, a Franciscan friar, driven to act in the name of justice, intercepted Conrad and murdered him.
The pope had had enough. He turned to the Dominicans. In the spring of 1233, papal inquisitors were appointed in Toulouse, Albi, and Carcassonne. These inquisitors were succeeded in an unbroken line for 600 years.
Hundreds of people were summoned to testify before inquisitors. The questions were repetitive, designed to plant doubt in the mind of the person being interrogated as to what, exactly, the inquisitor knew, and who had told him. Hmmm... Sounds like "Total Information Awareness," doesn't it?
A person suspected of Cathar sympathies was not always informed of the charges hanging over his head; if apprised of the danger, he had no right to know who his accusers were; and if he dared to seek legal help, his lawyer could be charged with abetting heresy.
Sounding more and more like George and his War on Terrorism ...
Whatever the verdict of the inquisitor - who was prosecutor, judge and jury - no appeal was allowed. Anyone could be held indefinitely in prison for further questioning without cause of explanation.
Yes. Enemy Combatants, no doubt.
The inquisition destroyed the bonds of trust that hold societies together. Informing on one’s neighbor became not only a duty, but a necessary survival strategy. And so it is becoming in America today.
For 100 years, the inquisition was a fact on the ground of life in the Languedoc. The arrival of an inquisitor in a town was the occasion for demeaning displays of moral collapse just as the arrival of George W. Bush is the occasion for legislators and journalists to take off their shirts and display the wide yellow streaks down their backs.
In theory, of course, no one could be punished if no one talked because the inquisitor could not act without a writ of denunciation, but in practice, no community possessed the cohesion needed to combat the power of a secret tribunal.
The same is true in America today. Everyone has been adequately conditioned by watching "reality TV" and "Survivor," and they know the rules: Do unto others before they do unto you. And so it was in the Languedoc, the historical model for what is happening in the United States today, and for what happened in Germany under Hitler.
Upon his arrival in a town, the inquisitor consulted with the local clergy. All males over the age of 14, and females over the age of 12, were required to make a profession of faith in the Catholic church. Those who didn’t were the first to be questioned. Then, the inquisitor would give a speech in which he invited the people to spend some days thinking very, very hard about their activities past, present and future, and to come forward in the following week to give confidential depositions.
After a seven day grace period, those who had not denounced themselves would be issued a summons. The punishments ranged from loss of property , to loss of life. Aside from the capital crime of being a Cathar, punishable offenses included sheltering a Cathar, or even failing to report any instance of heresy. The real proof of genuine piety toward the Catholic Church was defined as the number of people the sinner was willing to betray!
It only took ten years for the Inquisition - the work of a few psychopathic fanatics - to become the proficient bureaucracy that lasted for 600 years. It employed hundreds of individuals who interrogated thousands of people with such monotonous regularity that a regular "glossary" was established for the "workers".
Armed with a list of proposed offenses to be considered "heretical" or "supporting heretics," which included just knowing that a heretic had crossed one's property and failing to report it, the Inquisition proceeded to intimidate the population of Europe on a scale that was impossible to imagine. The sheer numbers of people called to testify, and re-called to testify again and again, was staggering. In a strange twist of historical irony, the Cathars - who believed that the material world was evil and irrelevant - inspired the codification of the Police State.
A cross-referenced compendium of the confessions extracted from tens of thousands of people was compiled, creating a map of the mental landscape of the Languedoc. The more than 5 thousand transcripts of interrogations that survive represent only a small fraction of the work of the Inquisition.
Inquisitors manuals were created to serve as guides for the growing number of Papal courts in Europe. These manuals reminded the inquisitors that they were in the business of saving souls, but I think that the distinction was lost on those whose lives were lost or ruined by the judgments of the Inquisition.
Languedoc was, essentially, the laboratory for repression.
The reputation of the Inquisition was enhanced by the talented Inquisitor of Toulouse, Bernard Gui, who was the villain in Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose." The Inquisitors persuaded a handful of captured Cathars to convert and sell their testimony. Sicard of Lunel of Albi gave the friars an exhaustive list of Cathar sympathizers, even fingering his own parents! Anyone who had ever helped him in his life as a Cathar, whether they had just given him a bed for the night, a bit of food, or even a jar of honey, were hauled in to be punished - just on his word. He and several others like him were lodged thereafter in a castle outside of Toulouse in the medieval version of the "witness protection program." Sicard was well paid for his perfidy and lived to a ripe old age. One wonders how peaceful it was.
The use of torture was delicately referred to as "putting the question." In the Languedoc, successive waves of highly trained inquisitors, aided by informers and torturers, fired by the totalitarian creed of the Catholic church, with detailed manuals and expanding registers of "intelligence," slowly but surely ground Catharism into oblivion.
Thousands of dramas of conscience ended in the dungeons or in fires quenched with blood. By the end of the century, only the truly heroic dared to say that this world was evil... It was not a legal system; it was a system designed to create fear. And so is the War on Terror in America today. [George Bush's Inquisition]
The Inquisition brought the French Monarchy and the Catholic Church into positions of absolute power. But, paradoxically, the brutal way in which the genocide of the Cathars was carried out carried the seeds of the destruction of both the Church's power, and the power of the Monarchy. Both were so secretly and thoroughly hated and distrusted by a great many people, that the Protestant Reformation and the French Revolution grew and festered in the hearts of the masses. "Apres moi, le deluge..." and a deluge of blood it was, only it was not controllable. The Elite who wish to rule the world are good students. They noticed that brutalizing people or leaving them to starve tends to make the masses a bit cranky.
With the above mentioned development of Structuralism, "many scientists - and the members of the ruling class that employed them - believed that they were justified in treating human beings as if they were pieces of meat, and as an overall plan of action, proceeded to do so." These ideas were taken up by the Nazis in their great experiment in trying to take over the world. After observing Nazi Germany, it seems that the Soviet Union, Great Britain, and the United States mounted their own large-scale research programs designed to develop techniques for psychological control of the masses. It has been suggested that the U.S. was a latecomer to this activity, but our Timeline suggests that this is, in fact, not true.
Convinced that German scientists could help America's postwar efforts, President Harry Truman agreed in September 1946 to authorize "Project Paperclip," a program to bring selected German scientists to work on America's behalf during the "Cold War". However, Truman expressly excluded anyone found "to have been a member of the Nazi party and more than a nominal participant in its activities, or an active supporter of Nazism or militarism."
The War Department's Joint Intelligence Objectives Agency (J.I.O.A.) conducted background investigations of the scientists. In February 1947, J.I.O.A. Director Bosquet Wev submitted the first set of scientists' dossiers to the State and Justice Departments for review. The Dossiers were damning. Samuel Klaus, the State Departments representative on the J.I.O.A. board, claimed that all the scientists in this first batch were "ardent Nazis." Their visa requests were denied.
A memo was written saying that "the best interests of the United States have been subjugated to the efforts expended in 'beating a dead Nazi horse.'" Nazi Intelligence leader Reinhard Gehlen met with the C.I.A. director Allen Dulles. Gehlen was a master spy for the Nazis and had infiltrated Russia with his vast Nazi Intelligence network. Dulles promised Gehlen that his Intelligence unit was safe in the C.I.A.. Dulles had the scientists dossier's re-written to eliminate incriminating evidence. And so, Allen Dulles delivered the Nazi Intelligence unit to the C.I.A., which later opened many umbrella projects stemming from Nazi research. (MK-ULTRA / ARTICHOKE, OPERATION MIDNIGHT CLIMAX).
By 1955, more than 760 German scientists had been granted citizenship in the U.S. and given prominent positions in the American scientific community. Many had been longtime members of the Nazi party and the Gestapo, had conducted experiments on humans at concentration camps, had used slave labor, and had committed other war crimes. In a 1985 expose in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Linda Hunt wrote that she had examined more than 130 reports on Project Paperclip subjects--and every one "had been changed to eliminate the security threat classification."
President Truman, who had explicitly ordered no committed Nazis to be admitted under Project Paperclip, was evidently never aware that his directive had been violated.
So it was that the Office of Strategic Services - forerunner to the Central Intelligence Agency - enlisted the Nazi Scientists for "specialized problem solving." Foremost among these was solving the problem of agent recruitment. That is to say, getting agents that were not only not on the payroll, but who were literally impervious to being "broken." A second problem they wanted to solve immediately was gathering intelligence from the agents of other governments who, they already suspected, had been made "impervious" to detection, as well as making sure their own recruits had not been compromised. That is to say, they wanted a "truth serum." Senior O.S.S. officers turned to the behavioralists for a scientific solutions.
The story we are told about this goes as follows:
"Despite frantic efforts, the O.S.S. failed to find an effective interrogative drug. Yet the lure was so enormous that even after the war the newly created C.I.A. continued the effort undeterred. But it was not until the 1949 trial of Cardinal Josef Mindszentry by the Soviet-installed Hungarian communist regime that the C.I.A. realized that drugs held other promises as well. In the course of Mindszentry's trial, his deportment, demeanor and speech led C.I.A. analysts to the conclusion that he had been successfully subjected to an extraordinary form of psychological manipulation. Although the technique was unknown to C.I.A. psychologists, it was clearly of such efficacy and power as to cause him to confess to crimes he did not commit and could not have committed; and they were quite certain that drugs were somehow involved. The Soviets had clearly mastered a new form of totalitarian control; and discovering its secrets became an urgent intelligence priority. On April 20, 1950, C.I.A. Director Roscoe Hillenkoetter approved the United States' government's first research and development program expressly designed to develop techniques for the control of the human mind. It was known through successive incarnations as Projects BLUEBIRD, ARTICHOKE, MKULTRA and MKSEARCH; and eventually came to encompass 149 distinct behavioral science research programs and 33 related non-behavioral projects over the course of twenty-three years.
The open-ended research program that Hillenkoetter approved was given sudden impetus by two dramatic developments. The first was the outbreak of war in Korea sixty-six days later; the second was the public breakdown of the U. S. ambassador to the Soviet Union some two years thereafter. During the Korean conflict American forces often performed poorly in the field against enemy armies that had no prior experience in mechanized warfare; and in one particularly shameful incident, an entire U.S. army division fled the field.
Moreover, the conduct of American servicemen in captivity was shocking. Fifteen per cent of American prisoners of war held by the Chinese Communists actively collaborated with their captors, and a full seventy per cent signed fraudulent confessions to war crimes or written denunciations of the United States government. More alarming still, large numbers of those that signed confessions or denunciations refused to recant after their repatriation. Many were suspected of having returned to the United States as willing spies for the enemy; and some were later proven to be. Of similar concern was the bizarre behavior of Ambassador George F. Kennan at Templehof airport while en route to London from Moscow. There Kennan exploded in anger at a naïve question posed by an inexperienced reporter; and as a result of his ill-advised response was declared persona non grata by the Soviet regime. Such were the times that many senior American officials were convinced that this incident provided strong evidence that Kennan had fallen victim to Soviet mind control.
The general outline of the C.I.A.'s behavioral science research program - commonly, but incorrectly referred to as MKULTRA - was inadvertently revealed by the Rockefeller Commission in 1975. Established by President Ford to investigate allegations of C.I.A. illegality, the Commission's Final Report contained a one-line reference to a federal employee who had killed himself after having been unwittingly drugged by a C.I.A. officer as part of an MKULTRA experiment. This sparked a press furor that eventually resulted in more extensive congressional investigations chaired by Sen. Edward F. Kennedy. Not surprisingly, both the press and the Sen. Kennedy focused their investigations upon the more lurid aspects of MKULTRA, which included the kidnapping, drugging and torturing of American citizens on American soil for research purposes and the effort to develop "programmed assassins." Overlooked in the process were the C.I.A.'s efforts to determine the effects of electromagnetism upon the psyche, electromechanical stimulation of the brain, a form of technologically-based E.S.P., remote viewing, precognition, psychokinesis and, especially, nonaural voice communications with radio and microwave transmissions. This was unfortunate, for their researchers made gains in most of these areas and scored dramatic breakthroughs in others.
According to declassified financial records and the testimony of retired C.I.A. officers, the C.I.A. had by 1961 developed implant devices for dogs, making it possible for their handlers to guide them through various courses by remote control. During this same time frame they also developed techniques for disrupting bodily functions with radio waves. By the mid-1960's they had successfully developed and field-tested nonaural voice communications with both radio and micro waves; and by 1977 they had developed and field-tested a rudimentary form of electromechanical "mind reading." But despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, they have steadfastly maintained that they failed entirely in their quest to control the human mind.
There are perhaps three reasons for the C.I.A.'s implausible denials. The first is legal responsibility. For as the Kennedy hearings established, C.I.A. officers wildly exceeded their authority in the course of MKULTRA. Innocent citizens were kidnapped off the streets and drugged, hypnotized and subjected to physical torture. These actions were and remain felonous; and had the criminal justice system taken its proper course, scores of C.I.A. officers would have faced capital charges. The second reason is the explosive nature of the data they developed in the course of their experiments. For contrary to common belief, the human psyche lacks systemic integrity. Rather than the tightly integrated system that has been historically assumed, it is in fact a loosely related collage of drives, inhibitions, orientations, functions, desires and beliefs - all of which are subject to external manipulation. The third and final reason is the extraordinary ease of reengineering the human mind. With the ARTICHOKE technique, a psyche may be broken apart, restructured and reassembled almost to specification in approximately four hours - all without the victim's consent, or even his conscious awareness.
As declassified C.I.A. documents make clear, a principal objective of MKULTRA was to develop techniques that would allow the Agency to exert control over an individual to such an extent that he would do their bidding "against his will and even against such fundamental laws of nature such as self-preservation." Technically, they failed; but only because a parallel project run by the Department of Defense achieved success first. The C.I.A. research and development program was reportedly shut down in 1973, and the ARTICHOKE techniques perfected by the military were adopted wholesale." [MKULTRA and the weaponization of the human psyche by Charles S. Viar]
Now, the question is: have the C.I.A. or the U.S. military - and their chief ally, Israel, operationalized ARTICHOKE?
On 6 April 1994, a 19-year-old Palestinian driving a stolen vehicle packed with explosives pulled up to a crowded bus stop in the northern Israeli town of Afula. Before the vehicle could come to a complete stop, it exploded with enormous force, killing the driver and eight Israelis and wounding 50 more. Although few Western analysts have made the connection, the Afula attack was a turning point in the Middle East conflict. For it was the first time that so-called Islamic terrorists - clearly victims of operation ARTICHOKE - were used to mount suicide attacks as False Flag operations. Since then, it is clear that project ARTICHOKE - or its successor - has been behind almost a hundred additional suicide attacks against Israel, and the United States, and now, Great Britain.
The results have been devastating to Arabs, Islamics, the Palestinians, and VERY good for the business of Israel and the United States. In Israel, suicide bombers have killed approximately 1000 Israelis and wounded almost five times as many. However, for each Israeli killed by suicide bombers, Israel has been able to kill three Palestinians and to further effect its plan of genocide of the Palestiinian people.
Furthermore, the results of the so-called suicide bomber attacks have served only to make Arabs and Muslims targets of xenophobia around the globe.
In recent times, Israel has pointed to the economic damages it has suffered as "proof" that Israel is NOT running "false flag," or "ARTICHOKE" operations. They cite the facts that, in Israel, economic growth has ground to a standstill and that Israel is now suffering a net population loss from emigration, as young Israelis leave for Europe and America in search of employment and, perhaps, security. You can bet that there will be a new wave of "anti-Semitism" launched in order to drive the Jews back to Israel.
The 9-11 attacks against New York and Washington are prime examples of ARTICHOKE technologies. We are constantly reminded that "19 Arab terrorists dunnit," and the mainstream press has failed to adequately address the issue that many of the “hijackers” named by the F.B.I. are alive and well. Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal told the Arabic Press after meeting with President George W. Bush on Sept. 20: "It was proved that five of the names included in the F.B.I. list had nothing to do with what happened."
But certainly, SOMEBODY did.
"As of this writing, there has been no public discussion of ARTICHOKE-assisted suicide bombings. Indeed, all official discussions of suicide attacks have carefully omitted any reference to ARTICHOKE as an element of the suicide attack strategy. They have instead focused upon the supposed religious fanaticism of the bombers. [...]
[R]eligious fanaticism fails to explain the remarkably low failure rate of suicide bombings. To date, not a single recruit is known to have defected to either Israel or the United States; and only one is known to have refused to carry out his assigned mission. On the basis of current public source reports, the failure rate of suicide bombers appears to be about 1 in 80; and such an extraordinary figure is only attributable to scientific technique."
