Day after day, brave American soldiers are dying in Iraq, where our policy of staying there without an exit strategy is in itself fueling an insurgency that grows more deadly by the day.

Day after day, the Bush Administration tries to erase the image of "two Americas" that the whole world saw during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. But no amount of "new Presidential focus" can erase the truth -- that poverty has grown during this Administration.

Day after day, we see this President backtrack on his pledge to fire anyone in his Administration that had anything to do with revealing the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame. And where is Congress on this whole affair? AWOL -- no outrage and no hearings.

Yes, day after day, it becomes even more urgent that we win back the Senate in 2006. We need to defend our great Democratic incumbents. We need to win open seats, especially in states like Maryland, New Jersey, and Minnesota where strong Democrat Senators are retiring. Finally, we need to challenge Republican incumbents like radical right-wing Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania whose views are an insult to women and science.

Our PAC for a Change is already making a difference, but we have a long way to go. With your help, not only will be continue to make major financial contributions to these candidates, but I'll also be able to travel far and wide across the country to campaign hard for the Democrats we need to take back the Senate -- and you'll help us mobilize the volunteer support on the ground that these candidates need to win.

Truly, I don't know what I would do without you out there with me. I have become a major target of the right-wing because they know that I'm out there, not afraid to take them on.

The right-wing movement and their henchmen in the media have called me "learning disabled," "an airhead," "ridiculous," "an embarrassment," "the biggest doofus ever," "un-American," "unfit," "a nut," "reckless," and "the dumbest member of the United States Senate." One even said that I am "Frau Doctor Mengele of the U.S. Senate" because of my leadership on choice. Clearly, the work I'm doing has definitely caught the attention of those who want to silence me.

Well, I have news for them: I will not be silenced. I wear their insults as a badge of honor. And the more they attack me, the more decent Californians and Americans will stand with me to get this country back on track.
