Animal Totem Meditation by thomas .....

What Happened During My Recent Animal Totem Meditation

Yesterday I did an animal totem meditation that wound up being a wonderful experience. For those who have never heard of an animal totem the easiest explanation is that a totem is the equivalent of a symbol, so they are in essence animal symbols. However, they take on another dimension because they are much more than just symbols, they can be like guides or messengers. For some they are akin to guardian angels or spirit guides. The power and symbolism of animals is present in many native cultures in the world. Most of us here in the U.S. equate these beliefs with the wonderful beliefs of the Native Americans.

The great part as well is that the meditation is rather easy especially if you have practice in doing guided meditations. The meditation starts off with you picturing in your mind a beautiful and welcoming forest. As you enter the forest you walk among the trees until you reach the middle of the forest. In the middle of the forest there will be a great big hollowed out tree stump. Picture a tree big enough that you could fit your entire body in it. Once you get up close to the tree, jump inside and slide down. When you reach the bottom, whatever you choose the bottom to be, ask for your animal totems or power animals to reveal themselves to you. Once they have revealed themselves, you can ask them questions such as what do you represent for me, or what message do you bring me, or anything else that you happen to think of in the moment. Be open and allow the animals to show you all that they have to show. Allow them to take you anywhere they choose to whether it is walking in the forest, swimming in a lake or stream or flying in the sky above. Yet know that wherever you go and whatever you do you are always protected by God and no harm can come to you. Within this meditation you have absolutely no limitations. You can fly, run, swim or anything else you choose to do while among these animal totems. Remember they are here to bring you messages and to support you on your path at this time. When you have asked all your questions give thanks to them and to God for making this so. When you are done with the meditation slowly bring your awareness back into the room. If your feet are not already on the ground, place them on the ground now. This is a grounding process similar to the grounding of a wire. This will ensure that you’re fully balanced and awake after the meditation.

A couple other quick suggestions: make a declaration in the very beginning that this meditation will be for your highest good and highest healing. And make sure you have a pen and paper handy so that when you’re done with the meditation you can right down everything you were told. If during your meditation, your animal totems appear but they do not explain their meaning you can always check online for some meanings or buy a book at your local bookstore. I know they have some great animal symbol dictionaries out there. But as with everything, make sure that the message speaks to you or resonates within you. Also, you can play some soothing music in the background if you like. When I did the meditation there was someone drumming. This definitely made the experience even more powerful.

** In the next part you can read what I learned when I used this meditation. But if you’re going to try it for yourself you may want to wait. I just don’t want any of my imagery or visualizations to interfere with your own experience. You can always come back to this later. I just figured I would throw in this little warning.**

Now here is what I received during this meditation. I was able to visualize the tree in the middle of the forest. I jumped inside the hollowed out stump and slid all the way down. It wound up being a lot of fun as I visualized it being like one giant water slide. I wound up sliding down for a long time. I think I was enjoying it so much I didn’t want to stop. When I finally reached the bottom, I fell into a large pool of water. This pool was round and was bright gold. I could look up and through the stump to the sky. The sun’s rays were shining down on me and lighting up the pool making the gold shine even more. It was really beautiful.

After taking notice of my surroundings, I decided to ask my animal totems to make themselves known to me. The first animal that appeared was what I at first thought was a deer but later realized was an elk. It was a large strong animal with really large antlers. I spoke to the elk and asked him what message he brought to me or what he symbolized for me. He told me that he represented strength, courage and protection. The next animal that appeared was an owl. I asked the same questions. The owl told me that he represented wisdom, my intuition and guidance. The next animal was the hawk. The hawk spoke to me and said that he was the bearer of messages and divine guidance. He said I should trust him more and that the more trust I had in his messages the more messages he would bring to me. The next animal was the bat, which was no surprise to me as the bat has been a symbol that has appeared very frequently for me within the last year or so. The bat spoke and said he was a symbol of transformation. He would be a sign and appear to me whenever there was something that should be transformed or is about to be transformed. The last animal to appear was a salmon which happened to swim around me and jump out of the pool. It was a magnificent fish. He spoke and said that he was the symbol of birth and the light of birth. He reminded me to banish the darkness by shining the light. To use the light within me to dispel the dark.

After receiving their messages I thanked each of them for being here for my highest good and highest healing. I then flew up out of the stump with the owl and the hawk and began to fly up in the sky for a while. This was immensely enjoyable. I just love the whole idea of flying and being free as a bird. Shortly afterwards, I awoke out of the meditation. I then consulted a book on animal symbols to garner further information regarding these animal totems.

Now these happen to be the animal totems that are with me and are assisting me on my path at this time. It is possible that further down the path I may need assistance with different things, so the animal totems may change. The point is that this is a meditation that you can do again when you feel your circumstances have changed.

If anyone happens to try the meditation let me know how your experience goes. And know that this was a meditation that was passed on to me, which I am thankful to the person who helped me with the meditation, and so you can pass it on as well. As I always say, none of us are going it alone. We are all here to help one another.

Enjoy!!
