A reminder that the animals around us can be powerful symbols

As I was walking home today from my usual run in the park, I noticed three crows in one of the pine trees. As I stopped and looked closer, I noticed there were two or three more of them sitting in the tree. As I stood there, they must have sensed my presence and took off into the air. Several of them began squawking and circling above me. They did this for several minutes and then flew off altogether. If this were several years ago, I may have simple shrugged off the experience and said boy that was weird. Had this been a normal occurrence, I may not have even taken notice. But because it was unusual, it got my attention and I believe that happened for a reason as nothing is mere coincidence. So instead of labeling this as weird or thinking it is simple a random event, I now see it as a powerful symbol. Those crows became a symbol to me through which the universe is trying to communicate. It was now up to me to link that symbol to a meaning or a message.
Usually when I am presented with an animal symbol, I will rely on books or even online web sites which will present meanings based on cultural and spiritual traditions from around the world. Many of the sources I use rely on the beliefs and traditions of Native American cultures which have a strong link to animals and their symbols. One of my main sources which I recommend to anyone interested in this subject is the book and card set put out by Jamie Sams and David Carson called Medicine Cards. I would caution that no matter what your source may be, make sure that it resonates with you. The information or the message presented should be used in conjunction with your own intuition and insights. If a certain book or web site does not speak to you, then simple find one that does. This is just a matter of finding what works for you and remembering that what works for one person may not work for another. In relation to the medicine cards, I have found that they have been a great compliment to my own intuition.
So right when I got home from the park, I went to my room and pulled out the book to see what the meaning or message was behind crow. I also thought that since there were so many of them that this was a symbol not to be overlooked or forgotten. The imagery created by my sight of them in the tree and circling above combined with the loud squawking, made for a powerful experience. I knew to take it seriously. After reading the meaning in the Medicine Card book, I knew that this was a confirmation about my future and how I will choose to lead it. The message fit in perfectly with what I have been thinking about and what I have been told by others. This is just another example of the universe trying to assist me in moving forward in this journey of light. For that I am immensely grateful.
So the next time you are out and about in the normal course of your day and take notice of an animal, decide for yourself whether it holds greater meaning for you. Could the universe be trying to tell you something? Have you asked God a question for which you are awaiting the answer? Well that answer may be lying in wait as a powerful animal symbol.
Some examples of animal symbols found online or in books and a short description of what they mean:
Ants – Patience
Beaver – Building
Bear - Introspection
Butterfly – Transformation
Fox – Cunning
Owl - Wisdom
Spiders – Creation
I should note that there will be times when you find varying meanings for these animals, use your own intuition to decide which one speaks to you. There is a great power of knowing in each of us, it is simple a matter of using it.
