Juice Fast Day 2 by Deephousegirl .....

Is it abstinence from fats not food that causes weight loss during the juice fast?

Today I felt very different while working out at the gym. I noticed I was able to complete my cardio without any difficulty but I had problems completing my weight lifting sets. I felt really weak and wasn't able to finish my reps eventhough I was using the same weights as I have been over the past week post fast. I'm not sure how to explain this, I'm sure it has to do with drinking the juices exclusively again but I'm not sure. If anyone has ideas please let me know.

I started reading a fasting book by Dr. Furman. I'm enjoying it very much. Its making me really consider trying a water fast for healing after my juice fast. Something very interesting that he has pointed out -eating fat makes you fat. Yes, it sounds obvious but he's onto something here. Last year I remember towards the end of my school semester when I started to get extremely busy I started making this vegeteble soup. I'd make a huge pot of this soup which included a bunch of fresh vegetebles, various beans, barley and spices for taste all boiled in water and vegeteble broth. This soup was naturally fat free. Anyway I drank this soup for lunch and dinner almost every day for 2 weeks. It wasn't a diet but a time saving tactic. I never weighed myself but I know that I had lost weight cause I remember my jeans fitting a lot looser. I couldn't understand this because I was eating huge bowls of this soup at meals. There were even nights I'd get home from the library very late and I'd eat this soup before bed and I never gained weight despite eating so late.....

Then there was the previous juice fast. I drank a lot of vegeteble juices and I worked out but the majority of the juices that I had were naturally sweet fruit juices. For this reason I never believed that I would lose a lot of weight. I once read that excess sugar turns to fat in the body so it should be avoided - impossible when drinking fruit juices. But I lost weight on the juice fast and once again, during that time I wasn't consuming any fats whatsoever.

So Dr. Furman is onto something here. What if we could eat all the virtually fat free whole grains, beans and lentils and all the fat free fruits and vegetebles and continue to lose weight simply because we aren't consuming any fats!. It makes sense that a fat free diet could aid in weight loss but it just seems too simple. Yet for me, I can't refute this idea because of my past experiences. It's definitely a challenging thought but one that deserves a moment to ponder.
