Haiku is an ancient Japanese form of poetry traditionally written about nature. Each Haiku has three lines: the first line has 5 beats, or syllables, the second line has 7 beats, and the third line has 5 beats. I tried my hand at it, and found it to be both fun and easy.

wind blowing softly
tree branches swaying in wind
leaves begin to drift
towering up above
pine trees standing solemnly
in big, silent woods
brown grasshopper leaps
lizard flees to shelter green
yellow moth flitters
dew on gleaming leaves
drops fall in sparkling water
little ripples form
howling mournfully
wind whistling and whirling by
monsoon is coming
berries juicy ripe
butterfly's erratic flight
stink bug scitters past
sun shows behind clouds
shimmering rainbow appears
river sweeps image away
peacefully swaying
golden grass with wisps of green
calmness in meadow
little boy running
joyously exuberant
follows his heart-trail
shining stars in sky
moon rising bringing grave quiet
waves still crash on shore
eagle in the sky
elegance flying up high
graceful, fierce, peaceful
duck squats patiently
heron stands on one leg, tall
lazy turtles float
spider spinning slowly
birds blissfully chirping softly
deer cuddled with fawn
stars twinkling at night
pinpricks of light in dark sky
silent, heavenly
brilliantly orange
hummingbird greedily sips
