This summer, as the Arctic melted and energy prices jumped to unprecedented highs, the California Legislature missed a historic chance to pass the Million Solar Roofs bill. Now, the California Public Utilities Commission has a chance to implement a similar solar program of its own for all the electric utilities it regulates (which excludes LA, Sacramento, and several other cities, but includes the state’s largest electricity providers, who supply three-quarters of the state’s electricity). Write the Commissioners today and ask them to think big and create the largest solar program in the nation!

Subject: Maximum Funding for California Solar Initiative!

Dear Commissioner,

I am writing to thank you for your prior leadership in implementing strong and productive solar incentive programs. I urge you to now take California's existing solar programs to a new level by funding the California Solar Initiative at least at the level intended by the Governor's Million Solar Roofs Initiative for the utilities you regulate ($1.8 billion over ten years). Increasing the funding level even further will bring the State closer to our goal of a Million Solar Roofs over the next ten years.

California relies on fossil fuels for more than half of its electricity generation. The price of this dependence is becoming increasingly difficult to bear. With Fresno and Los Angeles leading the nation in air pollution, global warming increasingly impacting our State, and the price of natural gas breaking records, it's time for an aggressive approach to sustainable energy for our state.

You have the authority to turn a bold solar energy vision into a reality by the end of this year. Please act now to help California solve its energy problems with solar power and lead the nation toward a cleaner, more sustainable future.
