Support new legislation that would place a moratorium on human testing of pesticides!

An amendment to the Interior and the Environment Appropriations bill that would implement a one-year moratorium on human testing of pesticides was introduced in the House by Representatives Hilda Solis (CA) and Timothy Bishop (NY), and will be carried in the Senate by Senators Boxer Barbara (CA) and Bill Nelson (FL). There may be a floor vote on this bill in the next few days and help is needed for it to pass! Please join PAN and partner groups in signing the open letter to Congress.

CALIFORNIANS: Protect farmworkers and communities from pesticide poisoning!

Many of you took action to demand that San Joaquin Helicopters be held accountable for last month's pesticide drift incident exposing 23 women farm workers in Kern County to toxic pesticides. We need your support today for the Pesticide Safety Enforcement Act (SB879) to pass the California Assembly Agriculture committee to help prevent future incidents.

Too often, when inspectors find violations of pesticide safety regulations they simply issue a warning and no fine. SB 879 (Escutia), the Pesticide Safety Enforcement Act, would require that fines for violations that pose a health or environmental hazard be mandatory and that County Agriculture Commissioners initiate and complete investigations within 60 days, unless an explanation is given to the Department of Pesticide Regulation. Currently investigations can take as long as a year to complete.

Take Action!  Go to: http://ga4.org/campaign/_SB879

CALIFORNIANS: Support Environmental Health Legislation!

Chemicals—including heavy metals, pesticides, flame retardants and industrial solvents—are prevalent in our environment, our communities and our bodies. More and more scientific evidence is linking toxic chemicals in our environment with increasing rates of breast cancer and other diseases.

Over the past two years, the Breast Cancer Fund has worked to establish the nation’s first-ever statewide biomonitoring program in California, which would allow us to measure the "pollution in people" by analyzing blood, urine and breast milk samples for harmful chemicals.

The resulting legislation, Senate Bill 600, was approved earlier this month by the California State Senate. Now it faces an even tougher road in the Assembly! The chemical industry has vowed to defeat it.

SB 600 has support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which has committed between $1.5 and $2 million to California for this program.

SUPPORT THIS VITALLY IMPORTANT BILL! SB 600 will be heard by the Assembly Health Committee on June 28. Several members that serve on this committee are undecided and NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU!  Go to: http://www.breastcancerfund.org/site/pp.asp?c=kwKXLdPaE&b=71144&msource=enews...
