Some things in life... are exciting and dangerous, but someone has to do it... This is a picture from fotosearch.com... like one of the Off shore oil rigs; I worked on 135 miles in the Gulf of Mexico, some years back...
This is a picture of a semi-submersible rig like I worked on...
Generally the workers rotated 14 days on, then 14 days off.... There were four groups of people on a exploratory rig...
1) Since it was navigable and registered as a sea going vessel; it had a Merchant Marine crew...
2) Then there were the facility maintenance personal, like electricians, mechanics, cooks, and house keeping...
3) Then you had the Oil Rig workers, who manned the actual drilling operation...
4) Last but not least were the Petroleum company people; which was Marathon Oil for the rigs I was on... They were the customer, if you please...
Both of the rigs I was on were built in the Alabama Shipyard, Mobile!
This is a pic of the gang boat or utility boat that brought supplies out and ferried personal back and forth... Taking about about 12 hours or more... Most of the crew came out on these boats... Myself and a few fortunate others came out on Choppers... This only took about an hour...
We will discuss more in my book on details and happenings, like Hurricaians....
See Ya Later... Kermit
