Grandad goes Shopping (Invisibly) by Deborah Lockett .....

I continue where I left off with the last blog about my dead father-in-law called "Grandad".

The same evening, I picked up a shiny 2 cent coin that must have fallen out of the pocket of a client that had just left my flat. That was the second coin I had picked up that day but I didn't know what I was supposed to make of it.

Yesterday it was time to go to the supermarket again. On the way there I stopped to buy the last packet of antibiotics that I need to finish my course.

At the first pharmacy which had sold me a packet last time, there was a different assistant and she pointed to a poster on the wall that said I needed a prescription. So I set off again on my bike for the pharmacy where I had bought the second packet.

There was a different assistant from last time and she asked me for 3.15 Euros even though the price is 3.26 Euros and it's printed on the packet. As I left the shop I looked at the change in my hand and she had given me change for the amount she said: she had undercharged me 11 cents.

That was the second time in a row I had been undercharged at that pharmacy. Was Grandad responsible for the extra coins that were put in my hand this time, I wondered? Was he telling me again that he wanted to help me buy my medication?

If that had been all, it would have been curious enough. But at the supermarket Grandad went one better.

After parking my mountain bike at the supermarket entrance I went to put my bag in a locker.

After inserting my 50 cent coin into the lock I had some difficulty turning the key. I found out why when I went to get my bag back. I turned the key in the lock and two 50 cent coins came spilling out. Someone else's coin must have been partly jamming the lock – and I hit the jackpot with it!

Grandad helps me buy my medication, then he gives me 50 cents towards my food shopping! I love you, Grandad.

Tomorrow will be the 19th anniversary of Grandad's transition to Spirit. Will he give me some token to mark the anniversary, I wonder? I'll let you know what happens next.
