Larry Ziegler a stand for kids experiencing theatre!

I don't know if I've blogged this tidbit but I grew up here and attended Pt Loma High School. Last night I had the wonderful experience of "going back". My mad glass artist friend still has a son in high school, (hahah) and he plays drums. He plays drums very well....He happened to be in the orchestra pit playing with Larry Zeiger's 29th "gotta sing, gotta dance", Princess of Princeton...A wonderful revue..that features 70 kids from Pt Loma who wrote, scored and directed (helped Larry, that is) this extravaganza of song and dance....WOW.
What fun sitting in the auditorium and seeing the kids perform...Unfortunately not the beautiful auditorium we had~it was not earthquake proof~ but a new one (new to me anyhow)
Everything, except for the number of performers, seemed scaled down from my experience of Pt Loma Stage productions...I remember I was in the last production of the season (a BIG compliment) in my sophmore year. The stage was up over 5 ft high and removed from the seats by an orchestra pit, and while not as large -The audience seemed like a sea of faces and not very human.
Now the satge is level with the first row of seats..and the actors play with the first three rows of patrons...I happened to be in row 2, with the mad glass artist and another alumnus Barb Morton of Brigantine, Azul, Miguel's Restaurants.
So the kids, some of them had never been on stage before, others I have seen before this, put on their own production with the everpresent guidance and love of Larry Ziegler....OH and another alumnus played with the band~ Shawn Loescher-sax player of some renown...What a bunch of talented people..
The show was sold out, 300 seats; everyone filled...(Tonight there are 30 seats left, tickets 10.00 each)...it is worth every penny and then some. These kids, (plus Shawn Loescher) are amazingly talented and self expressed! Ham's , chips off the old hambone..Tonight the Reader will be there covering the performance...And as a very important aside-Pt Loma doed not have a budget for these critically important events- Next Year is Larry's 30th year helping young people get a taste of the stage-What a gift to Larry (who says "This is the last One") if the budget was in place for what, in all liklihood, will be the last one... He is a stand for kids, and the Arts. Contact Pt Loma High School Performing Arts...(619)223-3121
I LOVE to see kids self expressing in a creative way, it lights me up! Their level of play, fun, hamminess, and generally watching them have fun making us laugh....it touches me. A great feeling for us all...
What fun to have the priviledge to be connected to my past and the new community that resides there now!
I ALWAYS have fun with The Mad Glass Artist, Creative People are FUN....and inspiring.
We are all creative people, God made us that way...So I'm creating a day of Yoga today with an old friend and teacher!....
