4th Down

Sitting in an old grey sweater,
waiting for the day to begin.
I sent you my love , in a letter
& every dream within..
I sent you my soul in a rainbow,
(to shelter you from ev'ry pain.)
& then i stood outside your window..
& waited for the healing rain.

cause it was:
1st time down , and i spun around
(caught up in the arms of love)
Touching the sky.. in your big blue eyes,
Racing the stars above...
I never ever thought i'd uncover..
the many ways a soul could fly
but i knew right then i'd discovered..
that i'll love you til the day i die,

How many ways .. i tried ?

waiting, just to feel your touch?
well it was too many times to remember
so i guess it really wasn't that much.

cause it was;
2 times down, and then flat on the ground.
kickin'.. (in the dust and dirt)
stuck in the mud, (like a bug in a rug)
(caught up in your old grey shirt)
I never ever thought i'd uncover
the many ways a heart could die..
& it took all those tears to discover...
that there weren't any more to cry.

Sweet as a breeze on a summers' day..
(remembering now, .. your voice)
I sent you my love (on a telephone line)
you said there really was no choice.
you said that we would never be lovers.
surrendering the final call...
& it was then i awoke to discover
that you'd never cared for me at all.

and it was;
3 times down, and i spun around.
reeling... (in a big tailspin),
caught in the breeze of a hurricane squeeze...
(Breakin' a sail in the wind)
& it was too much pain to remember
(the way you never said goodbye)
& it took all these years to discover..
that i can't remember why?

and now it's;
4th time down & the big touchdown...
Lookin' at the win or lose...
I don't have any answers , dear,
(the path is always yours to choose)
but if you ever think to discover
a reason for another try,,,
well it's the reason i still remember..
