Dear Harpo,

It is with a sad heart that I report to you that the sacred cooked
pinto beas which Mary, your sweetheart, gave me when I visited
you Valentine's Day went uneaten and were lost. I take full
responsibility for this occurrence; however, there were a number
of other parties involved. I will trace the circumstances to the best
of my ability so you can come to some resolution about this
unfortunate event.

As Deborah and I were leaving your home Saturday morning,
my hands were filled, and my heart so happy, and my mind so
filled with joy, that when I handed the beans to Deborah, I took
no thought as to where she placed them. She placed the beans
separate from the bag of food. Later, when it was time to eat,
while following Deborah's directives to various stops along the
route home, I failed to pay the beans their proper respect,
although there were tortillas right there in my bag.

Thenty four (24) hours later, while riding to William Aura's
house to attend his potluck and musical Heartspace live performance,
I was travelling with Rosie, our dancer, who commented on
the presence of the beans behind me; however, she did not reach
over to see if they were still edible, as she normally does when
she sees food out of place. It may have been because she was
looking forward to dancing. I was totally into my mind at the time,
and did not think to chekc them myself when we stopped; however,
later I do remember you told me how even beans you fixed weeks
later would still make a delightful meal, so I erroneously assumed
they were still good.

I was totally consumed in social interchange sharing love
that afternoon, and my mind was filled with pleasant thoughts
and my stomach filld with all kinds of party foods when I arrived home.
Again, the beans were neglected.

As I unloaded my car this afternoon, here at Dr. Jensen's Hidden
Valley Ranch where I'm working this week, I came upon the beans
in Mary's tupperware container. Opening them up, the top was
beginning to mold. It had turned whilte. I stuck my finger into them,
investigating whether the lower layers were also tinged. About one
inch (1) down, they were moist and creamy. The frangrance was
delicious. I consulted wyour spirit as follows:

1) should I eat them, removing the top layer?
2) should I throw them out?

I heard a clear "out!"
"Don't take chances with spoiled food!"

I hope I acted wisely in this case.

I feel into complete remorse about the beans; however,
I will take them home and put them into my compost pile
where the earthworms will finish them off and turn them
into clean rich soil that will grow beautiful flowers this Spring.
I hope you will carefully consider the facts in this case,
and consult others on this.

I have prayed over the beans; however, an additional
prayer on this bean issue might be in order, as well
as various philosophical, poetic, and other inspired
pertinent thoughts on this and other affairs of note,
pertaining to our lives and what is real.

I would therefore like to invite you to a Sacred Bean Ceremony
this coming Sunday at Leonard Richardson's Farm,
1622 S. Citrus, at 2 PM.

Please bring beans.

Everyone else should bring other food to share.
Perhaps some musicians will come, or we will play
the new Heartspace tapes, and conduct a Sacred Bean Dance.
Do you best to attend this event, will you?

Sincerely,

Leslie Goldman
