Rededication of the Temple--
the Temple is the Body in these times.

Historical:
Chanukah commemorates the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem in 165 B.C. after its desecration by the Syrians. The eight-day observance stems from what is said to be a miracle in connection with the relighting of the N'er Tamid, the oil lamp in the Temple that was supposed to never be extinguished. Once the building was cleansed, a small vial of oil was found, but only enough to last a single day. Miraculously, the flame lasted eight days -- until more oil was located.

who loved children.

Once, he was scheduled to perform
at a event we were doing in San Diego
and his daughter was with him.

He would not leave for the event without his daughter.

The next day, we had a World Peace Celebration
In Starlight Bowl San Diego. It was on Earth Day
before they had the big event in Balboa Park
that is one of the biggest in the world.

The Rabbi loved people and was strolling around the park.
He had a tradition of always being late, so I told his
daughter I would give her $20.00 if she made sure he
was there to perform on time.

A picture was taking during the performance of the little
daughter during the performance coming up on stage
and talking to her Poppa. That picture is may have taken.
I am not sure. I saw it integrated in a mural to this Rabbi.

His name was Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach.

This is something he writes about Chanukah,
that begins tonight.

"our holy rabbis tell us that Chanuka is the light of the Messiah; the deepest, deepest, most hidden light in the world... a light that reaches the most hidden place in our hearts. We kindle the lights by the door or window of the house because on Chanuka all the doors and the windows of hearts are open to each other."
