As many of you know who
read my Blog, I share
that "Not knowing who is growing
your food is like being intimate with a stranger!"

I love my local Farmers' Market
and encourage you to spend your $$
wisely by shopping your local FM.

In some places, you will find
Beyond Organic Food available
that I also support.

This is called Bio-dynamic Quality.
Generally, Bio-dynamic Quality food
is available through Community Supported
Agriculture.

This is popular in various parts of the country.
Local Farmers ask their communities to buy in
to help grow the foods.

People sign a contract.

Each week or so, a box of goodies in the growing season
is dropped off to a central location.

For those in the Los Angeles, Orange county,
Riverside, and San Diego areas, I would like
to alert you to the existence of Tierra Miguel
CSA.

This CSA was started in part by Rob Farmer
and a host of other great people.

Rob was one of my Biodynamic Teachers
and learned from Peter Dukich.
I have not spent time with Rob for
a number of years. We rekindled our
connection last night at the 90th Birthday
Celebration for Peter Dukich,
a Bio-Dynamic Compost maker
for more than 50 years.

See Blog on Peter here:

Here is some info on Tierra Miguel CSA.

If you want the highest quality food that I know--
I am talking about Immune System quality building food
that you do not grow yourself--
I would suggest that you go out of your way to meet
the lovely people at Tierra Miguel.

This farm is exists through your support.

Here is something I copied from their website:

Community Supported Agriculture

Quality Organic Produce -
Straight from the Farm

We deliver a wide range of fresh, organic and highly nutritive produce weekly to your area. Contact us:  Tierra Miguel Foundation Farm & Community Supported Agriculture, 760-742-1151

What is CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)?

City folks have come a long way from the days of Mom's lovingly tended, homegrown tomatoes. Supermarkets and super-sized farms have disconnected us from the soil and our need to protect it for our own good. A CSA is about a direct relationship between farmer and consumer with the purpose of creating sustainability.

We at Tierra Miguel are on a mission to nourish the piece of land we work with tender care. No pesticides, only "living" compost will do to produce tasty, nutrition-filled veggies. We use natural fertilizers and insect control. By joining the CSA, you're supporting not only healthy food, but sound ecology, agricultural education and preservation of the land. Thus, we all reconnect to a conservation ethic and sense of community.

How does the CSA work?

You decide you want to enjoy our produce, fill out our Pledge Form and send it with your check to the Farm Office. We send you a share of the farm produce in a carefully packed box to the pickup location of your choice.

We serve many sites in San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles Counties and are growing everyday. Staff will be in touch with you about the delivery day for pickup. If we do not currently have a delivery site near you we immediately put you on our waiting list. Do consider becoming a site coordinator for your area and invite neighbors to join. This is a great service and helps the Foundation expand. Any questions? Call 760-742-4213.

What's in a "Box"?

What's in a box depends on the season and the elements. You can be assured the varied produce you receive will be fresh, clean and plentiful. We work to give you a wide variety of seasonal, CCOF-certified, organically grown fruits, vegetables and herbs. We include additional organic fruits and other fine delights from time to time. You also get a weekly Farm Newsletter with new recipes to excite the cook and updates informing you about Farm activities, with invitations to our special events.

Can I come to the Farm?

Every first Saturday of the month is Volunteer Day. Folks are welcome to come out to help the farmers and visit the remarkable 87 acres we want to save from development. We ask that you call in advance when you want to come. Special events can be planned, but must be pre-arranged. Gardening classes may be requested. We have school programs that give kids a chance to be "Farmer for a Day." Farmer's Market is on Saturdays from 10am-2pm, so please come by then. Click here for map and driving instructions.

Is the box more expensive than buying at the store?

Our produce is competitively priced with organic produce you might find elsewhere, but you also receive extra benefits by supporting the CSA. With us, we promise there won't be a need for pesticide cleanup nor will we deplete the soil, saving these hidden costs from future food bills. We plow your subscription funds directly back into maintaining farm activities and educational services.

Tierra Miguel sees you as part of our farm family and we practice and encourage conservation wherever possible, which also produces savings. Together we share the Earth's seasonal bounty as a community benefit.
