Dear All,

After a decade-long struggle by plantation workers and regional and local groups, in 2002 the Malaysian government finally banned the deadly herbicide paraquat. The ban is the first by a Southeast Asian government. Now, under industry pressure, the Malaysian government has decided to reconsider the ban on paraquat. We need your help to keep workers and others safe from this lethal chemical!

Statistics from the Malaysian National Poison Center show that, before the ban, on average one Malaysian worker died every four days due to paraquat poisoning (data for 1977 to 1997).

Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Asia and the Pacific has launched a worldwide appeal for groups and individuals to write to Malaysia's Director General of Agriculture, The Honorable Dato' Hajjah Khamsiah Muhammad, and urge her to remain firm on the paraquat ban.

Take Action! Write to the Malaysian Director General of Agriculture, and tell her to keep the paraquat ban!
